Through the Window

The skies were overcast, but the weather was in the high 60’sF, so I had my windows open and this came through:

Man: “Hon, do we have an E.T.A. on lunch?”

Woman: “Eat this, Jerk Wad!”

Man: “Ouch! Hey! What is it?” There was laughter is his voice. “And what’s with you?”

Woman, angry: “It’s an eviction notice!”

Man, exasperated, “It is not. It’s a warning.”

Woman: “Yeah, well, it will be an eviction notice if you don’t control your brother and his stereo.”

Man: “I’ll talk to him. Come here.”

Silence.

Man, hopefully: “Lunch?”

Woman, laughing: “It’s not on my to-do list.”

Man, still hopeful: “Pootang?”

Woman, drily: “You’ve got a better chance of getting lunch.”

Woman, giggling and shrieking: “Stop!”

Man: “Hey, come back here!”

More giggling, and a door slams.

Quilly is the pseudonym of Charlene L. Amsden, who lives on The Big Island in Hawaii. When she is not hanging out with Amoeba, she is likely teaching or sewing. Or she could be cooking, taking photographs, or even writing. But if she's not doing any of that, she's probably on Facebook or tinkering with her blog.

  1. Across the road from my house is a forest, on one side of my house is a stand of trees, in the back is what we in Newfoundland call a small pond, but is elsewhere called a small lake. My closest neighbor is separated from me by a line of trees. I am a happy man.

  2. What interesting neighbors you have, the only thing I hear from my neighbors (the Landlord and his wife) are their cats running across the hardwood floors above me and the Landlord’s Sax from time to time.

  3. I’m glad your jotting these down Quilly… you’ll need them when you write your novel. I don’t get such interesting little tidbits through my windows…. just cheaps and twitters… the occasional lawn mower… very peaceful… but no blog fodder!

  4. Quilly, how funny. I’d feel like a voyeur! Here in our ‘over 55 RV park’ – even though we’re in very close proximaty with our neighbors – we never overhear anything.
