Looong Night

I am sucking down a venti Starbucks Mocha and wondering why I didn’t stick to my first reaction when OC announced he was going to be in town for about 16 hours on his way to Hawaii — I told him I hoped he’d like the plastic chairs at the airport. Of course, I didn’t mean it, but for a few moments this morning I wondered if I should have. Then I realized my mistake wasn’t in picking OC up yesterday afternoon, it was in taking him back to the airport this morning.

Now, at 6:10 a.m., having been awake for three hours (after sleeping only 4) and having driven to the airport and back already this morning, all I want is to curl up in my nice warm bed and go to sleep. Isn’t going to happen. In about 30 minutes I have to go to work — plus it’s day ten of the instruction cycle and a Tuesday — so I have a hectic day ahead. Today I teach teachers, teach students and tutor afterschool. I am also supposed to go to my weight-loss class tonight, but that is going to depend on how I feel about driving at the end of this work day. I might just roll home to bed.

Update: 6:40 a.m.

For those of you bouncing back and forth between the comments on OC’s blog and mine, he just phoned me from the airport.  He was on the plane, and said they’d ask him to hang up the phone any second, but he just wanted to let me know he is house broken, he just doesn’t know his way around my house yet.  I assured him I’d introduce him to the sink and the garbage can when he comes back this way.  Pft.

Quilly is the pseudonym of Charlene L. Amsden, who lives on The Big Island in Hawaii. When she is not hanging out with Amoeba, she is likely teaching or sewing. Or she could be cooking, taking photographs, or even writing. But if she's not doing any of that, she's probably on Facebook or tinkering with her blog.

  1. Melli — there is a job interview on the other end of that flight. We’re wanting to move to Hawaii, so he’s really going to need the job. On his way back he’s staying for several days. I can be patient. (I’ll also catch up on my sleep between now and then!)

  2. Gawpo — I haven’t noticed that particular mess.

OC — I found your dirty clothes about a foot and a half from the laundry hamper. I figure I can’t gripe about that though, or you’ll defend yourself by telling all my readers the laundry hamper was full. Btw, you do have a few personal habits I like. :*

  3. If it was me, I would have called in sick…

Actually, no I wouldn’t have. I would have gone in. And used my lunch break to sleep.

Hope you got a good one eventually.

    Helen

  4. Clothing left OC and went towards the hamper? That isn’t too likely to happen randomly, so clearly we’re discussing a house-broken man here.

OC, all the best with the job interview! May it be all you hope.

  5. Helen — on the days I am the writing coordinator I don’t have a lunch break or a prep period. Okay, I get about 15 minutes at lunch time, and I do get my prep the very last 40 minutes of the work day — but I only get that one because it is the time I would usually take the professional development class — which I obviously don’t have to give to myself!

I am one of those people that only wake disoriented and groggy if I try to take a short nap when I am exhausted.

Morgan — it would take a man to think “near the laundry hamper” was good enough! (Although in this case it had to be, since “in the laundry hamper” was occupied space.)

  6. Quilly, because the hamper was full, I knew you didn’t have the Magic kind.

I once had a girlfriend who owned a magic clothes hamper. Anything I put in somehow showed up clean a few days later. The girlfriend used to complain about laundry. She got really upset when I suggested she simply uses the magic hamper like I do!

    ROTFL!
