Today There Were No ….
… fights over favored toys.
… squabbles over listening to the story.
…fights over who was helping teacher as circle leader.
Today we swept no food off the cafeteria floor after lunch.
Today no one went into time out for hitting his friend.
Today all the children took a nap.
Today was pretty much an ideal day — except that when the day was over and the children went out the door, no one came running back for a hug.

Melli — Kenny is gone. One little 45 pound darling relocated brought peace and productivity to our classroom — yet the stillness was scant compensation for his loss. My day was seriously short of sticky hugs.

before i saw the comment section i sensed a certain emptiness in this post… oh well
I had a feeling what you meant…….isn’t it strange how one child can change the whole demographics of your classroom. i suppose it is easier now, but ……..well it had it’s compensations, huh…. I have a child who is this way, unlike the rest…….harder to raise, but so much more rewarding….when the day is done.
