Quilly is the pseudonym of Charlene L. Amsden, who lives on The Big Island in Hawaii. When she is not hanging out with Amoeba, she is likely teaching or sewing. Or she could be cooking, taking photographs, or even writing. But if she's not doing any of that, she's probably on Facebook or tinkering with her blog.

  1. miss teacher should know better than to park her car under the tree that drops big hard fruits

  2. Look again, Brian. 🙁

John, it’s 40 feet from the top of that tree to the parking lot. Coconuts of the size pictured weigh a couple of pounds each. The car is directly under the tree …

    Yeah, jill.

Miss Teacher has no choice, Tina. The parking places are strictly assigned. Yes, they’ve been told. No, they’ve not acted.

You’re right, polona. Words aren’t working in this case. Maybe Quilly should send the people who manage our housing complex the URL to this page.

  3. Eek. Silver lining is that it could have been the windshield instead. :S

If they’ve been told, it’s possible they acted neglectfully, and may be responsible for fixing the damage. IF it’s worth it to you, you’d need to ask an attorney because there’s a lot more to it than that. My advice, go complain and take them a repair estimate. Use various words that make it seem like you’re going to sue, such as “negligent” or “liability”. At the very least, demand a different space.

    Sorry this happened. 🙁

  4. well if you were in the South I’d advise the redneck solution, which is a shotgun to shoot the coconuts out of the tree heh

but considering your in a very urban area I don’t think it would help the situation 😀

  5. Probably about 50 mph (10m/s), Brian. I thought of that, but I doubt, thanks to (a) the wind, (b) the people, (c) our frustration when we went to move the dang carpet/plastic when we wished to drive the car, that any such bumper would stick around long enough to do any good.

It’s not that bad, Brig. Yet.

We might almost get to try that, Tina. It’s almost Chinese New Year. We can blast away under the cover of the fireworks, maybe. Or not.

Good fruit, melli. Bad location. Bad timing.

  6. I hope it doesn’t get that bad, but please mention it to the apartment complex and hand them photos of the dent. It helps your case if it ever does get that bad.

  7. Mumma — it is the housing development (condos) that assigned us the parking place. Each unit has one assigned spot. Extra spots can be purchased for extra money.

  8. Kat — at least it wasn’t my head!

Pauline — indeed. I bought the car in June of 2004 and that is the first real damage. I guess, all things considered, I’m pretty lucky.
