Waikiki

We walked in the sands of Waikiki hand-in-hand. We sat on a park bench side-by-side and watched white-capped waves roll in. We strolled out to the end of the peer and stood side-by-side gazing out to sea — while he took a business call and I took some photos.

And I turned the camera just a bit, widened the angle and …. my favorite photo of the evening.

Quilly is the pseudonym of Charlene L. Amsden, who lives on The Big Island in Hawaii. When she is not hanging out with Amoeba, she is likely teaching or sewing. Or she could be cooking, taking photographs, or even writing. But if she's not doing any of that, she's probably on Facebook or tinkering with her blog.

  2. Beautiful pictures Quilly. I don’t know why when someone says “Hawaii” the only thing that jumps in my head is grass huts and hula girls. Thank goodness you’re sharing your experience so I can know the contemporary Hawaii.

UNTIL the part about the “business call” my comment WAS going to be to OC – asking if it wasn’t a bit difficult taking a romantic stroll with a tripod along… but now I think I’ll just comment about how TRULY spectacular those pictures ARE – and how Hawaii should be paying YOU to create postcards for them!!!

  5. In fourth grade at our Christmas show we had to sing a song called “Christmas on the Beach of Waikiki” (which by the way-everyone hated because it wasn’t a traditional Christmas song). Since then, I have always wondered what Waikiki looked like. Now I know.

    It looks lovely, but I think I prefer celebrating the holiday in my own house with my family. 😉

    Kat — any grass huts you find here will be purely for show. Now the poor folk live in on the beach in colonies cobbled together of canvas and cardboard.

    Brian — well, of course I was, but nt for the reason you’d think. I was leading the walk from scene to scene in less then a straight line and had completely forgotten that OC hadn’t used the restroom at the restaurant, and he was just wanting to get back to our hotel ….

    Melli — no tripod. I used the rock walls at the beach and the gazebo to hold the camera steady.

  14. I love that pier! We stayed in a hotel close by and each morning brought out a cup of coffee and walked to the pier. Lovely photos!

    These pictures made me sad and happy at the same time. Probably because we missed our holiday this past year do to The Man changing jobs…

    But happy for you. I have never understood how people can be jealous of another’s good times. Why not just happy for them!

    Janet — we’re just a block and a half up the street from the pier. I wanted to be out there this morning for sunrise, but I blew it.

    Aims — my jealous friend isn’t really jealous, she’s just giving me a hard time.

    Bill — because all the dirt, grime and crime is hidden in the shadows.

    i got some great shots once from the hau tree lanai. THAT is an awesome place to have dinner. i don’t remember the taste of the food, but i remember i ate it on the beach!!!

  24. Beautiful pictures all the way down your blog. I hadn’t been over in a few days, so there were many beautiful pictures to see. I am going to be off blogger for awhile, I have so much research to do, it is keeping me busy. But even if I don’t leave a comment, I come by every so often.
