Mixed Greens: Project Green Finale

A blast from the past. Being a Jill of many trades, I know my way around a toolbox, and I probably shouldn’t confess, but when fraternizing with the opposite sex, I have spent more time under the hood then in the back seat. Honey, hand me that five-eights socket and the ratchet, please.

A glimpse of yet another University of Hawaii at Monoa site:

This Korean Temple is a symbol of cooperation and peace between East and West.

And a rerun of one of my favorite photos. This was taken in the fall at dusk on the edge of Friday harbor in the San Juan Islands.

And a story from my classroom:
Kevin of the Green & Blue

For weeks now Kevin has gotten the colors green and blue mixed up. No matter what strategy I tried, he just couldn’t tell them apart. Today I called him to the work table and pulled out the color lessons again. I was expecting the same old same old. I picked up a crayon — green — and asked, “Kevin, what color is this?”

He grinned wide and bright. “Green.” He said.

“Green!” I repeated, with my own matching smile. “You’re right! Have you been practicing?”

“Yep!” He said, then he dug all of the other shades of green out of the crayon box. After showing them to me, he said, “Now for blue!” And out they came too!

When asked, “Please hand me …” Kevin can now identify all of his colors! When asked, “What color is this?” And shown an item, he still confuses black and brown, but he’s not expected to have that distinction down pat until Kindergarten, which is next year. (But we still have several weeks to work on it this year!)

Aloha Project Green
It’s been fun!

Once again — here is my own project announcement: commencing May 1st and running 26 days, I will be doing Alphabet Photos. Day one is A. Day two is B. Day three is C. Etc. (Just what did you expect from a Pre-K teacher?!) I would love it if you would join me! Please, please say you will!

Quilly is the pseudonym of Charlene L. Amsden, who lives on The Big Island in Hawaii. When she is not hanging out with Amoeba, she is likely teaching or sewing. Or she could be cooking, taking photographs, or even writing. But if she's not doing any of that, she's probably on Facebook or tinkering with her blog.

  1. 3 CHEEEEEERS for Kevin!!! Whoooo hooo!

Love your other greens today too — that car! What a beauty! But all of them were good choices!

    I’m already stressing over “Q” and “X”…. and I haven’t taken “A” yet!!!

  2. I once had someone offer to give me a car just like you posted, but with more rust. Free and no strings attached. Still kicking myself on not taking him up on it.

Yay for Kevin!! Great job, Kevin!

I would participate in your photo project, but you’ve seen my photos. We’ll see.

  3. I forgot to say that I would love to join you in your ABC Photos. I think I will be enlisting my 4yr old to help again. I will put a link on my blog right now to help you promote it.

  4. this is a great post all round. love that car and hurrah for kevin! he must have been following project green 🙂

  5. Love the car! I laughed about the rachet – my husband always did all the work that needed done on our cars and I’ve gotten to the point of when I’m sitting at a redlight I can tell if the car next to me needs a fan belt or a serpentine belt!

I’m going to join in on your project but will miss two or three days in the beginning – gotta visit B – baby grandchild!

  6. I just found out about your May Challenge from Melli… what a great idea. I’m going to give it a shot… I wonder if my photoblog is still alive.. hmmmm……

  7. I would have no clue what to do with a ratchet or anything car related. That does NOT mean that I spent more time than you did in the back seat of anyone’s car.
How wonderful that the little feller got his greens and blues all figured out.
Can you teach me how to tell time? I’m not too good at reading a watch or clock unless they are digital.
    🙂
I look forward to seeing your alphabet photos.
I only post twice a week, so I won’t participate.

  8. When I taught first grade, I sometimes had students who had too many colors in their box. One girl, when asked to color something blue to identify it, could sometimes spend ten minutes with all her blues laid out, deciding which blue to use.

I would join you for the ABCs, but there are quite a few bloggers who do the ABCs every Wednesday. We are currently on O and will start with A again after we reach Z.

  9. Melli — I’ve got mine!

Brig — nothing wrong with your photos that holding still wouldn’t fix. Get a tripod!

Karen — your 4 year old is more then welcome. I’ve seen his work.
Brian — uhm, for me, not so much.

    Mumma — that’s what I said!

    Polona — I did wonder for a moment …

SN — he’s “pay attention” blind.

Carletta — have fun with B — and you can catch up all in your first post if you wish!

    Jill — yay!

Dr. John — my quality is highly over-rated. Interesting is bestl

    Judy — welcome. Let’s play!

Andrew — it is for sale. I think I took a photo of that info as well.

JD — you go ahead and stick with that story.

David — ha! I read about your gas tank fiasco.

Katney — if I’d have known you were all going to start over, I’d have waited!
