Project Black #2 & Sky Watch Friday

About a week ago, with no idea that Project Black was coming, I began exploring silhouettes & shadows. Deep, dark, black shadows. Now, on this end of the island the best shadows come out to play about sunset, and they need a light source for contrast, so please note that each of these photos also qualifies for Sky Watch Friday.

Or she could be cooking, taking photographs, or even writing. But if she's not doing any of that, she's probably on Facebook or tinkering with her blog.

  1. Woncerful pictures for both memes ! I am back from Italy, arrived yesterday evening ! Now I have to update myself to see what happened in Blogworld !

  2. Mar — thanks! Welcome back.

Gattina — well, don’t worry to much about what you missed here. Life should take precedence over blogging!

Carletta — the last one is my very favorite, too! I hopped out of my car as night was approaching and sat down — with my camera — in an “if-y” neighborhood to get that shot!

Robert — thanks. I have a better peacock silhouette, but I believe I already posted it.

  3. Such striking photos. I especially love the second and the last. There’s just something about palm trees in silhouette and gorgeous island sunsets, well they just speak for themselves.

  4. I got ONE foot out the door – I DO! But I had to stop in here! I’m just gonna SAY it though! I think these are PERFECT sky-watches! (which I’m not playing today because I just can’t visit the ENTIRE world on Sunday) But… I think these are CHEATS for Project Black! *nods* I bet NONE of those silhouettes was actually BLACK!!! You cheat soooo much…. I’m just sayin’…
They ARE gorgeous … you cheater!

  5. You make me feel jealous of these beautiful beach pictures… it’s cold down here in the southern hemisphere πŸ™‚

  6. Hi quilly, stunning shots as always, look forward to some more. Favourites mmmm 2 and 3 but love 4, love them all!! :0)

  7. Two things:

    1) I really like these pictures. They’re beautiful, and perfect for the project.

    2) I had already queued up my image for tomorrow before seeing this idea. πŸ˜‰

  8. Ah, I love a two for one sale – and especially such a glorious one! I love them all. The peacock form ground level looking up is kind of cool in a scary sort of way (he looks BIG), and they are all just beautiful. My favorite, though, is the last which just seems like serenity itself with the vastness of the sea and sky and the tiny person. Just beautiful all. Did I read in one of your comments that you had a birthday recently? I was looking around here to confirm it but didn’t find anything but just in case… Happy Birthday whenever it was.

  9. That last photo is beautiful!

And you’re right – there’s a sheep dog in that cloud! I actually “saw” it once you pointed it outl

  10. Oh girl…I’m so wanting to go back to Hawaii. The pictures are so magnificent!
If we get a break, I truly might head that way. We loved it there when we went for our 20th anniversary…..this time it will be 44, I think. Been a while, but is still so lovely.

  11. Jientje — I thought you’d like it.

Robin — I have a thing for palm tree silhouettes, too. I’d take their pictures by the hundreds, but I figured no one else would “get” it.

Indrani — oh yes! By the dozens!

Melli — these images are just the way my camera spit them out. I did enhance a couple by sharpening them, but I didn’t do any color changing!

Cris — our beaches are warm year ’round. Come visit.

    Annette — I think my faves are 2, 3 & 6. I love six.

Doug — yep. And one doesn’t have to look to hard to find them.

Juliana — thank you. I’m sure whatever you do will be better. When I (if I) ever get my new camera, are you coming to Hawaii to teach me to use it?

Ivanhoe — in this case “there” is actually four different places, though three of them are on this island.

Jeremiah — I know how you feel about tomorrows photo being “precluded” by someone else today. It happens to me all the time!

Karen — thank you. That sunset is my jewel.

    Jeanne – thank you.

Nessa — thank you. Feel free to like them all. πŸ™‚

JC — thank you. Mine, too!

Lily — yay! (I think inspiration is the whole idea of the exchanges — well, and traffic, of course!)

Dianne — thank you. That’s just how I feel when I wake up here every morning.

Lissa — it is a fun exercise. You’ll enjoy it and get some stunning photos. Just remember, the light source needs to shine toward your camera and it’s easy.

Raven — actually the peacock was on the garden fence and just a bit above camera level. The rest of his body (below the picture frame) had dumpster behind it and that just wasn’t the image I was going for. I moved myself a bit, adjusted the angle up, and … click!

Ann — he was the first thing I noticed — a real sweet shot.

    Photowannabe — — thank you.

Amber — well come on. I’ll meet you for lunch.

    Jill — — thank you.

  12. Unfortunately Tom is on bed rest today and for the first time you are stuck with me. I have my orders to visit as many as I can, and make sure the links are working and everyone is being good. I am sure you are all being good.
Tom and I thank you for Sky-Watching this week. I am sure that as soon as Tom’s heart beat settles down he will be back here and visiting.

    JANE

  13. Dragonstar — thank you.

Jane — you are always more than welcome here. I hope Tom is feeling better soon.

Dr. John — lazy is a great motivator

    jenty — — thank you.

  14. These are AWESOME shots Quilly! I love the silhouettes but my favourite, as if I had to tell you, is the sun sitting on the horizon. Just beautiful.

  15. You captured some beautiful silhouettes…and they are so diverse. I love that peacocks little comb and how detailed it looks in the photo.

  16. Oh my, oh my, oh my!!!
    I’m LOVING these gorgeous shots!!
Ahhhh, the gloriousness of a beach sunset.

Your idea to play with shadows and silhouettes is a great idea for the color black.

  17. Hallo from north Norway. Last week I saw all Sky Watch Friday photos and they were all great, and I hope to see them all this week too. I love to travel around the world this way.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful sky watch and have a great weekend!

  18. What lovely silhouettes here! I love the crested bird, but my favorites are the 2nd and the last two. Thanks so much for visiting me at Sacred Ruminations and leaving the link back here so I could enjoy these wonderful photos.
    Hugs and blessings,

  19. The sunset had my vote until I laid eyes on the lava with sea shells. Gorgeous. You really are good behind the camera.

  20. Jules — I recently posted a Waikiki sailboat in a similar beam. THAT is my current favorite sunbeam photo.

JD — thank you. You can come and write odes to my greatness anytime you wish.

Anneka — yes, I have seen the sunset the world over — right here from this couch.

Storyteller — the crested bird is a peacock. And come visit anytime you please.

Fugazi — thanks for your visit.

Terry — how do you know what I’m doing behind the camera? I thought no one could see me! [blush]

  21. Quilly, These are spectacular shots! I love the silhouettes against the sky! Thank you for your kind comments about my Skywatch Friday. Tina

  22. Still catching up on Project Black; your photos are stunning. I enjoyed every one. Sorry I didn’t make it by each time you posted; all are worthy of their own comment.
