  • Wordless Wednesday’s Project Black #7

Quilly is the pseudonym of Charlene L. Amsden, who lives on The Big Island in Hawaii. When she is not hanging out with Amoeba, she is likely teaching or sewing. Or she could be cooking, taking photographs, or even writing. But if she's not doing any of that, she's probably on Facebook or tinkering with her blog.

  1. Ooooooo I LOVE that shot! Escalators are one of my FAVORITE things! *nods* Really – I LOVE them! And I LOVE those gold shoes just sneakin’ in to the pic! I suspect this is a case of GREAT cropping!!! Way to gooooo Quilly!

How was the affair last night?

  2. What a cool pattern…and I, too love the shot of the escalators. Neat shoes, too.

So sorry that guy rear ended you. Hope you aren’t too sore today. Mad ok, but not the neck kind. *gentle hug*

  3. I love the patterns created in the moving stairs. I never thought of it looking that way but I guess it does. I am always surprised afresh how looking thru the lens can change perspective. It reminds me of drawing upside down.

  4. Nessa — I was ever so excited when I saw the gold toes!

Mar — I am not so keen n malls, but here in Hawaii they all have band stands and live performances. OC had a concert, so I went and got malled.

Melli — actually, the shoes were an accident — just a fortuitous one. I tried to take a photo of the escalator and the feet of a lady wearing spiky black high heels. Her shopping bags obscured her feet. This shot — I thought — was of only the escalator, but the gold shoes snuck in. I did crop a bit because her knee was showing, too, and I didn’t care for her blue jeans mucking up that smidgen of my shot.

As to the affair last night — we never made it. I was rear ended and we spent an hour and a half with a very friendly and charming police officer.

Amber — I took the photo from the balcony, and was hoping to catch just that look. AND, I seem to be fine this morning, fully mobile though just a tiny touch stuff. That could be stress.

Jules — see my comment to Amber. I was trying to catch that illusion of sideways mvement, and I love that it came out on the photo.

Doug — when it comes to shopping malls, there is no place like home!

  5. In some places, the device is known as a “moving staircase”. The owners/operators accept no responsibility for any escalation …

    [ducks]

    :*

  6. The shoes might have been an accident; but they really give this shot a excellent pop of gold!
    Clever idea!
Does OC find himself ducking a lot? 🙂

  7. I love the angle here. And the lines in the steps look really cool. I love the little bit of the foot you see entering from the left. Great shot.

  8. Vaianp — thanks!

    Amy — thanks!

    Janet — — thanks!

    Sandy — down, actually.

Juliana — YOU envy ME? Wow! Who turned the world around?

    Dr. John — thank you.

OC — I know where you live. Better yet. I know where you tickle.

    Rebecca — — thanks!

Andrew — that texture was what I was hoping to capture!

Carletta — yes, I think I like them better than I would have the black ones, but what really would have been perfect was a RED pair! “There’s no place like Macy’s. There’s no place like Macy’s.”

JD — sometimes it’s even on porpoise.

Willow — need glasses? OKAY! I know we aren’t used to looking at it from this angle. That’s why it caught my eye and made me reach for my camera.

Robert — You just mentioned all the things that make me really proud of this shot. Thank you!

  9. Gattina — it moves quite slow and isn’t very steep. You would be fine.

Britt — gee, thanks! My first god medal in photography (and likely my last!)

    JC — thank you.

    Ilana — thank yu.

Raven — better late than never. I didn’t make it around very well the last couple of days, either! Glad you liked the shot.
