Reflect This — Accessorize!

My friend and I went to the mall this morning for mayhem and laughter. I embarrassed the stuffing out of her by running around taking pictures of things. Sometimes I asked. Sometimes I didn’t. It depended on what I was picturing. This is the ceiling mirror in a CLAIRE’S ICING shop. (You see the wall, the mirror at a 55 degree angle, then the ceiling tile.)

The mirror is on the ceiling.
The mirror is on the ceiling.

I didn’t ask permission to take this photo, but I fiddled with framing and angles enough that the sales clerk — who’s head you can see in the bottom right corner — could have spoken up and stopped me at anytime. She just watched with a grin on her face and exchanged rolling-eyeball looks with my friend.

Accessorize!

Quilly is the pseudonym of Charlene L. Amsden, who lives on The Big Island in Hawaii. When she is not hanging out with Amoeba, she is likely teaching or sewing. Or she could be cooking, taking photographs, or even writing. But if she's not doing any of that, she's probably on Facebook or tinkering with her blog.

  1. Giggles!!!
You made me smile, I can picture this, really I can!!
About getting jealous … I got him jealous from the very first day!
He felt neglected and ignored by me! Awwwww!

  2. That makes an interesting shot. I had to laugh about your friend’s embarrassment. I am shy about taking photographs in certain situations but I also understand wanting to get your shot. That one turned out very well.

  3. That’s a fun shot! I only ASK in stores if I want to photograph something that is verrrrrrry expensive and probably exclusive to their shop. OR if it is a piece of art! Because artists (naturally) do NOT like to have their stuff reproduced in ANY manner! Otherwise, I just take my chances – and they can stop me if they desire! I get weird looks all the time! LOL! Wait til you hear my NEXT idea and IMAGINE how many strange looks I’ve been getting lately! And will get soon! (yep… another teaser!)

  4. You are such a hoot! Interesting shot and the hat looks like one of mine that has been hanging around for a good while.

I’m still hanging around the house taking pictures. I don’t think about taking the camera with me when we go shopping and my phone isn’t a camera phone.

  5. what a fun shot – well spotted and executed!
i know a thing or two about embarrassing folks around me (and sometimes myself)

  6. This is a wonderful photo, Quilly. It is fun to do things like this, haha. One time I had the ladies that worked in the store getting right involved with ‘helping’ me. It was such fun for all of us. Sometimes we have to embarrass even our selves in order to further our art. Sigh.

  7. I got mine all ready fur you now, Quilly… whenever you has time. Don’t worry, it won’t go nowhere if you don’t get there right away. Mine piktures are of God’s mirror, arf arf arf.

  8. Jientje — I got OC over his camera jealousy by taking bazillions of photos of him. Now he’s happy to have me ignore him while I’m taking pictures. 😉

Carver — I was a little nervous, but I read here about people doing it all the time so I thought I’d give it a try. It worked. Nothing cures shyness quite like success.

Doug — yeah, to stop shoplifting ….

Melli — well, if it’s too weird, I can watch from the sidelines ….

Gattina — why? The photo is oriented correctly. The jewelry is hanging on the hall.

Amber — I take the camera with me everywhere. Even when I walk to the mailbox or take the garbage out. One never knows what one might see!

Brian — not it’s not. Go to the mall and find the Claire’s store (they’ll be one there, I’m sure) and look at it. All the jewelry hangs from the walls and the mirrors will be kitty-corner over your head.

Carletta — I spent a lot of time in Claire’s as a young adult. I used to be the original bling girl, but now I rarely wear jewelry (though I still like to look at it).

Mar — the mall was fun and the shops catering to women were rich in reflective opportunities.

Polona — I have a feeling we are kindred spirits. You and Melli and I need to take a vacation together.

Alice — so far no one has helped me. They’ve pretty much been content to watch and snicker.

Reba — no worry. I’ll be there soon.

Dragonstar — I don’t suffer from insanity; I enjoy every minute of it.

  9. I love Icing and other shops like that. What fun it is to look at jewelry and hats and scarves and hair clips!
I took photos in an upper class grocery store near my brother’s apartment, and he was mortified over it. It embarrassed the heck out of him as I was snapping pics of the fabulous meat counter and bakery and produce departments.
    I found his reaction amusing.
Keep on snapping pics and causing embarrassment.
    It’s fun!!

  10. i have to tell you i LOVE LOVE LOVE your reflect this stuff. when you do a series, you do a series. you have some great brain cells, quil!

and i’m not just saying that because i want bumped up to category 5.5. and i’m not just saying all this because my brother is boring the *heck* out of me in a chat window.

    no.
    no.
    no.

  11. Jamie — I plan to keep snapping pics. No problem.

Holly — relax. You’re #2 — and occasionally full of it, too. 😉

  12. Cath — ask, they’ll get it for you.

Minkydo — teenage eye-rolling is a mandatory stage. Most people outgrow it.

    Nea — 🙂

Holly — I was trying to be polite.
