Krystal Acres

Meet my friends.  They are all named Al.  Al Paca.  They live at Krystal Acres Alpaca Farm.  The farm is gorgeous and looks more like a park than a ranch.  The animals are all well groomed, well-fed and well loved.  We arrived at feeding time and we were permitted to hand-feed a couple of the beautiful creatures.  One cria was bottle-fed to help mom out.

.

As you can imagine, my camera was snap happy.  I took some wonderful pics and Amoeba did, too (which is how I got a pic of my hand feeding the alpaca).  At one point, I put the view-finder to my face and was adjusting the camera lens for a close up, when Oreo decided to investigate the camera. Even though her nose is a bit out of focus, this is my most favorite pic of them all.

If you ever get to San Juan Island, mark Krystal Acres Alpaca Farm a “must see” on your to-do list.

    1. Deb — don’t they? I so wanted to hug them all, but they aren’t really big on being touched and I expect that would go double for strange ladies with flashing cameras!

    1. Gigi — Peru. Alpacas and Llamas are related — members of the camelid family. They are both South American wool bearing farm animals.

    1. Thom — you’re kidding right? Alpacas and Llamas are both members of the camel family. They are farm animals in South America raised for their wool, like sheep. They can also be used as pack animals, and are raised in Peru as a food source. I would never eat an Alpaca, but I suppose that is only because I will never have to. Click the link in my post and check out the General Store for even more ideas of why they’re farmed.

      1. Me kid…are you kidding me. LOL. Thanks for the info. And yes I should have clicked the link before making the comment…Oh well 🙂 Have a nice flight. See ya tonight…so far I’m not working 🙂

  2. Wonderful pictures, it looks like they sheer the fur off for the summer, do they use the fur for anything?

  3. I’ll DO that! Indeed I will! I’m so glad they were not NOT ALPACA’s that you saw! The way I understand it, cameras are not FOND of NOT animals…. unless of course, they’re intentionally NOT animals… like if they’re a tree or a flower or cheesecake or something. Then cameras like them just fine. It seems like save reasoning to me…

I LOVE these alpacas! They ARE cute — and I never new about crias. You pushed a brain wrinkle in to me today.

    1. Crias are what the baby Alpacas are called! I thought everybody knew that, but I am just learning that some people had never even heard of alpacas!

  4. They look so cute!!

Thanks for your comment, I have updated my post with it! I would never have known, I searched Wikkipedia, but found no answers there!

  5. Awwwwwe – they look like they have just been mowed. We have a farm down the road with some Al Pacas or Llamas (not sure of the difference). They are not as adorable as the ones in your photos though!

    1. CL — pull up photos of Alpacas and Llamas on Wikipedia and look them over, then read the articles. You will find there are many similarities, and many differences between the two.

  6. Awwwwww……..they are sooo cute :D!
Sorry, braindead here today and not up for any intelligent comment 😀
