Silly Haiku Wednesday — Light

A proper Haiku is so much more than a 5-7-5 syllable pattern, but I wasn’t invited to do a proper Haiku. I was asked for a silly one, and Jenn explains the concept thusly:

I was recently told by a reader that what we’ve been doing all this time is not so much “Haiku” but “Senryu” because we aren’t specifically discussing nature, and we often inject humour to our works of literary brilliance.

To this I reply, simply; “Don’t care!”

In fact, he’s right. However, I’m not a Haiku purist – and most people, which until that day included me, don’t know and really won’t care to know the difference. What we’re doing is expressing our thoughts and feelings in a format that makes us happy. It tickles our funny bones. It inspires creativity and, more importantly, camaraderie. So really, what we call it is largely irrelevant. But thanks for your opinion.

The theme for this week is: light.

Join the fun!

Light is my life force.
I worship the Son and sun.
Shine on me, oh Lord.

  1. Hi Quilly,
Don’t worry about the comment luv, I’ll still come and visit even though Jenn’s comments don’t love you!

Great (almost but not really a) Haiku, light can be interpreted in so many ways – I’m wondering if anyone will go for the diet coke options – Coke Light? I’m glad you joined in, it is silly and also fun!

    1. Jade — thanks. I bet my Comment Love likes Jenn when she comes here! [pouts] Okay, I’m over it.

I thought the same thing when I saw the word Light. I spent about 15 minutes just pondering possibilities. Then I glanced at my blog and saw the t-shirt post and knew what to do!

  2. I love that Son and sun companionship — beautifully done!
funny but I had the Apostles’ creed stuck in my head while thinking on ‘light’ because of the light-from-light line, and could hardly come up with a thing after that.

Meanwhile, the comment luv failed for me too, at the linky. Boo.

    1. Susan — we are not loved? Say it isn’t so! Well, Jesus loves us!

That t-shirt ad I wrote actually inspired this Haiku. was thinking light and sun when II looked at the graphic and the rest just happened.

  3. Quilly,

Don’t worry about what the purist said. It’s your poetry, you call it what you want. Ironically, I actually wrote about nature this week, but that was before I read your post. Hehe.

  4. Naturally I was called out of town yesterday, so I didn’t get to see all the great submissions until today! Better late than never I guess, eh?

I have always worshiped the sun too, but now my skin is starting to show it, so I’m trying to avoid it. Wasn’t too hard this summer, given how sloppy and wet it was here.

I don’t know why the comment love thing didn’t work for you – it’s always on by default. I did just upgrade it to the newest version, so maybe it introduced a bug. Figures. Oh well, if it doesn’t love you, at least I still do (even though you pick on me about the haiku/senryu every week!! haha)

    Have a wonderful, sunny day!
