Punny Monday #37

Welcome to Punny Monday. Every Sunday evening about midnight Hawaii time I post an original photo and ask my readers to figure out what was going on in my brain (or Amoeba’s) when he/I/we made it. If you need a kick start, spend a few moments watching the slide show at the top of my right hand sidebar.

Punny Monday

What noun does this photo represent? EMAIL your answers and leave a comment designed to either help or confuse your fellow game players.  The first contestant to EMAIL me the right answer wins a featured link in my blog which will display until next Monday when we’ll play this little game again. Enjoy.

PLEASE, do not write your guess in the comments. It spoils the game for the other players. Your guesses will be shared when the game ends. Oh, and just because someone announces they’ve won, doesn’t mean that they have. Please keep guessing until I post the answers!

HINT!

Come on guys, it is 7:30  a.m. here.  Amoeba just woke me to rescue you.  Here’s a clue.  [snicker] You have until noon, Hawaii Time!

C.

HINT #2

Someone commented (you might want to read the comments) that our trip to Waikiki influenced this and all I can say to that is, “It most certainly did!” In fact, the hotel spurred a little “he said, she said” conversation and lead to the epiphany of this post.

HINT #3

Read the comments. Consider my answers carefully. The only other hint I have left is to post a huge neon sign up here with flashing letters.

  1. I have refreshed this page so many times deternmined to get to the punny monday post, and now I have got here just as it’s gone up….

…I’m stymied. Stumped. Absolutely nothing. Nada. Zilch.
    Arrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!!!!!!
    .-= Thumbelina´s last blog ..authorblog’s Sunday Roast =-.

      1. I never would have gotten that. Hotels, yes, have vacancies in Australia, but that sea wasn’t vacant by Australian standards – there’s land in it!

          1. Mumma — I still see land.

I took this photo from the pier looking toward the shore. My intent was to use this photo for Melli’s Challenge and labeled it “empty.” But when the other idea came to us I confiscated the photo.

  2. Well, it’s foggy out here and chilly and damp and it’s foggy in my head too. Not a coherent thought in my head. The workers are due soon. The cats have broken into the kitchen so I’m all worried that Angel will escape or get hurt or break something. Anxiety high, brain function low, though this seems like an especially tough one so even if my brain was working I have a feeling I wouldn’t come up with anything. Looking forward to the answer.

    1. Raven — the cats will be fine. If they get in the way the workers will return them. I do hope they don’t get out, though!

I hope you come back and check out the hints!

    1. Melli — I am loving your guesses but they are all wrong! Perhaps you should check into a hotel for inspiration. Can you find a room this time of year?

  3. I keep trying to guess your Punny Monday posts, but I get distracted by the “beer on tap” and “Cinco de Mayo” off on the right-hand side of your blog. Not that I want you to move that slide show… it makes me smile every time! 😛

    1. Karen — I just took them down but NOT because of your comment. My blog has been loading really slow and I am trying to speed it up.

  4. if you were looking for an adjective instead of a noun, and if the trees had their tops chopped off, my guess would be STUMPED.

I even clicked on the picture to enlarge it. I think your time in Waikiki gave you a little too much time to be devious.

    1. Linda — you always make me laugh. I was so certain you’d see this answer as though it were posted in flashing neon!

    1. Barbara — 2 clues are up and several are scattered here in the comments! Watch the clock on my blog. Our time zones are VERY different.

      1. I know — there is a difference of six hours between us. I was just leaving it for whenever you got up — letting you know I wasn’t gettin’ it on my own. 🙂 Still not, even with the clues. I didn’t see a he said/she said here about it — unless I am overlooking it.
        .-= Barbara H.´s last blog ..A Quiet Spirit =-.

    1. Shelly — I think you had an issue with this noun the first time you tried to plan your cruise because you all wanted to stay at the castle-looking hotel and there were no rooms.

  5. One thing finally came to mind. Not sure whether to hope I’m right or not.

If I’m wrong, it will drive me nuts.
But if I’m right, I’m apparently as warped as you are! 🙂

  6. Still not getting it….I’m coming up with adjectives (though none as good as Linda’s) but no nouns. Not even after bigifying the photo and seeing a clue…
    .-= Barbara H.´s last blog ..A Quiet Spirit =-.

      1. Barbara some days we get it, some days we don’t. This one came to Amoeba and I at once and we knew it was perfect — and perfectly impossible. 😉

  7. Your clue helped me to discard my wild guesses… I sent you a new one, I won’t be up for the answer but I can’t wait to hear the right answer.
I would have never guessed my guess without your clue…which also means I am way off, most likely!

  8. Ok — NOW it makes sense after seeing the answers. My brain just wasn’t reconciling the “C” with “room at the inn” or with what I was seeing. I couldn’t tell it was a hotel at first, and even after reading the comments, it wasn’t all coming together. Afterward, of course, it is clear as day (or flashing neon lights).

Congrats to Linda, Polona, and Melli! Your brains are in good working order. Some of the “off” answers were very clever, too!
    .-= Barbara H.´s last blog ..A Quiet Spirit =-.

    1. Barbara — there is no hotel in this photo. It is the public park about 3/4 of a mile from my home. You were supposed to focus on the unfilled C.

  9. PFFFT PFFFT PFFFFT PFFFFT How you get Vacancy out of that picture…oh wait…there is no one in the Sea. Well I see the cy part of the answer but how Vacan is in there is beyond me. Well done Linda, Polona and Melli. Three abstract thinkers right along with you Q….
    .-= Thom´s last blog ..What’s Your 80s Name?, a Birthday =-.

    1. Vacant C, Thom. Vacancy. All you had to do to get it was check the mirror for that sign on your forehead! 😉 I do love your persistence though.

    1. Barbara — the most hints, yes, but one took longer to solve — partly because I was at work and couldn’t post hints. This post definitely has the most guesses ever!

  10. now i don’t know whether french class is killing my brain cells or helping them.
je pense que j’ai besoin des vacances (oh wait, i just returned from a holiday less than a couple of weeks ago)
    .-= polona´s last blog ..jumble =-.

  11. Scheesh ~ Boy was I wrong, and I thought that was a Dog swimming at the bottom of the picture. Maybe I do need to see that Oculist for a new pair of Spectacles.

  12. Christ!!! Quilly!!! You had to spell it out to Thom, and then I still needed to look it up. There is a huge language barrier here today. I hope it gets better when I get there, or I am going to feel so stupid!

  13. Woohoo! I can’t believe I got it – and I almost typed too long in my email and came in second! That’ll teach me.

That other guess in my last email would make a fun Punny Monday!

And as soon as I got it, I realized the C in the first clue was vacant as well. I got sidetracked because the font was a little different – a little more italicized.

Good thing this is only once a week so my brain can recover!

And I’m glad we can make your Monday so full of glee. Not that you were laughing at us or anything. . . . .

  14. Oh my goodness have you seen what you have done to us? 87 comments???!!!!!!??!
This one drove me nuts. I still don’t totally get it but that’s my own fault for not keeping up. And using the wrong email. I like how you gave the family names. Cute. 🙂
