It’s that time again! Lidna over at 2nd Cup of Coffee has come up with 12 more questions. I just love her memes. They make me think!

1. What was the last song you listened to?

2. Have you ever had “buyer’s remorse” over anything?
Oh yeah — almost every time I get a hair-cut! Can’t take it back, either!

3. What is something in your life that you are thankful for now that you didn’t think you would be at the time of the event? (Something that seemed ill-timed, inconvenient or hurtful which turned out to be a good thing)

Shortly after I wed, my (now ex-) husband and I ended up homeless in western Montana in the winter. Can you say cold? M.’s boss went bankrupt and with it went our livelihood and our home — provided through the job. At the time M. was owed 2 months back pay. We ended up with about $10.32, our car and a half-tank of gas. I learned to survive and came to understand my own strength and competence. That created me to be the strong woman I am.

4. Do you watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade every year? If so, do you have a favorite float or balloon?
No and no.

5. Share a quote, scripture, poem or lyric which has been an inspiration to you lately.
The New Testament has been translated into Hawaiian Pidgin.

I like this verse because it reminds me that Jesus is The Boss, and it is God that makes my heart rest inside.  This week, I have needed that reminder more than once.

6. This is meant to be a fun question, and this is a G-rated blog, but please share a “guilty pleasure,” something that you enjoy that’s probably not the most edifying, time-worthy or healthy thing you could be indulging in. Did I mention–G rating?
You mean like sitting here on my tush blogging all day?

7. What Thanksgiving food are you looking forward to?
No one particular food, but the sitting down time and the ambiance of the day itself. The food interests me more the day after Thanksgiving when I make my favorite turkey/stuffing/cranberry sauce sandwiches.

8. What is your favorite book to read to children, or what was your favorite childhood book?
The Paper Bag Princess, by Robert Munch is my favorite read-aloud ever!

9. Do you collect anything? (Feel free to post a photo.)
Uhm, I collect memories.

Oh, I am quite willing to accept a gift festooned in either.

11. Share an after-school memory from when you were younger. What was your routine like on an average day?
Memory?  Dark Shadows. Remember that show? I was forbidden to watch it, but no one was home to stop me. Watch it I would, and then I’d have horrid nightmares. At that time power cords unplugged from the back of the sets as well as from the wall. Gram started taking the television cord to work with her to keep me from watching the show at home — so I would just go to my friend Nancy’s and watch it.

Average routine? Wake, breakfast, school, home, snack, homework, play, dinner, violin practice, TV, sleep.

12. True story: Once, in a job interview, I was asked this question and told there would be no clarifying; I simply had to answer the question: “When you’re fishing, do you feel for the fish?” So what about you? When you’re fishing, do you feel for the fish??
Yes. I always feel a bit sorry for it when I kill it. However, I never feel sorry for it while eating it.

    I like your “I collect memories”! I wish I would have thought of that, because I do too.

    1. Betty — I used to collect more tangible keepsakes, but I move often and such things get lost or broken. Slowly I came to realize that I did not need dust-collectors and clutter makers to hang my memories on. Photographs work just as well and digitally take up very little space.

    1. Nessa — our TV was an old Zenith back & white that took up half the living room. I am the youngest kid & by the time Dark Shadows came along I was the only one still living at home. I only had Gram to fight with over what I watched.

  4. Glad you liked Henny Penny, I think she rocks as well. I never heard of the Dark Shadows, must have been something only aired in the US. Great Answers Quilly. I don’t think I could kill now, but I still love a Good Piece of Fish. Hmmm confused Soul I am.

  6. THAT is a fabulous song! I’m stealing it! LOL! We both mentioned Dark Shadows! And Quilly — we still have 2/3 of that rockfish in the freezer — Hop a plane SOON and you can have part of this one!!!

    Dark Shadows…oh that used to scare the daylights out of my sister and I. I’m pretty sure we weren’t supposed to watch it either.

  8. While I can totally relate to #6 not many people can relate to # 3 tho. I hope your readers feel how lucky they/we/ I are to be sitting in our homes playing on the internet and not living in a car somewhere. There are many in my city that do just that thing or live in the park, I hope if my turns ever comes I can handle it with the obvious grace you did Quilly. BTW the flower is gorgeous but the sunset? Out of this world, the little birds are perfect!

    I’ve never had a sandwich like that. We don’t do cranberry sauce, but the rest of it sounds good.

  10. Great answers! I had a similar experience about losing everything, and coming through it: it is a blessing in the end though it certainly doesn’t seem that way at the time!

    I’ve *got* to see the Bible in HP someday. Sounds wonderful!

    1. Susan — we bought the HP Bible at Barnes & Noble. New Testament only. It is an inexpensive paperback but I love visiting my favorite verses with it.

    i remember it being on and being too scared to look at it

    i chose rocky and bullwinkle, the banana splits and speed racer instead
    (oh.no. speed. watch. out. ! – thanx. trixie. that. was. close.)

    anyhow
    couple years back i saw that they had dark shadows on vhs
    borrowed it

    was soooooooooo bored!
    for weeks and weeks someone was locked in a cell
    in a basement
    i fast forwarded for what seemed like and eternity
    and they still werent out

    i gave up

    1. Tilden — As a kid, I watched Dark Shadows from between my fingers. I sat in the corner with my back pressed to the wall. As a grownup, when I rented it from Netflicks, I was bored spitless.

    You have seen some hard times in your life. (referring to #3) You are true testimony that things happen for a reason.

    1. Church Lady — I’m running a temperature. I just heaved. And I have company from out of the country who MUST be entertained because when left to her own devises odd things happen.

  19. I was never homeless, but I was on welfare and food stamps for 2 years as a single mother. Then David came and rescued me by marrying me. And the rest is history.

    1. Gigi — hard times help us build better character and greater compassion for others. I believe my trials served me well in that department. And I think, from reading your blog, that your trials grew your compassion as well.

  20. I was a Barnabas Collins fan too. All the ‘Twilight’ fans think vampires are just NOW in vogue.
    Laughing at Jim’s comment – I thought that too. The Macy’s Parade was how we started our Thanksgiving mornings together as a family when I was young.

    1. Carletta — the parade was a family tradition, but I just don’t — can’t — do TV. I don’t know why. It used to interest me. About 8 years ago I turned it off and that was that. I watch it maybe once a month now, and I rarely finish a show.

  22. I didn’t think of haircuts in terms of buyer’s remorse – that was a great answer! I definitely had buyer’s remorse over a perm one time. Can we say triangle head?
