Even Odds Get Left

They were on their way to church.  He was driving.  She was looking out the passenger window.  At a street light she pointed at a building and said, “That house number is wrong.”

He said, “Wrong?  What do you mean?”

She said, “Five, six, seven, nine.  That’s wrong.  I was taught to count in Kindergarten.  It should be, five, six, seven, eight.”

He said, “That doesn’t make it wrong.  That makes it odd.”

She said, “Huh?”

He said, “It ends in nine.  Nine isn’t wrong.  Nine is -”

“EVEN if that were so , ” She said.  “It would still be incorrect.”

He said, “Apparently what nobody taught you is that the odd numbers are on the left of the street while the –”

She interrupted, “Why do they leave them?”

He said, “Why do they leave what?”

She said, “Don’t you think it odd that they left some numbers on the side of the street?”

He said, “You know what I really think is odd?”

She answered, “No, what?”

He asked, “Why is it neither of us is writing this down?”

She said, “I wouldn’t even know where to start.”

He said, “Yeah, it’s probably better left alone.”

She said, “Right.  Odds are we’ll forget all about it before we get home anyway.”

So they left it at that.

  1. What I find ODD is that during all this neither of you noticed that the SIX was actually the one in the wrong place! It SHOULD have gone 5,7,9 — NO SIX! Six belonged on the other side of the street!!!

    1. Linda — yes. In fact, after Sunday evening service tonight Amoeba was saying that if he taught in Germany he would be Herr Professor and I interrupted and told him I guess he could never teach in Germany then because he didn’t have any hair. 😉

  2. Odd that you didn’t knock on the odd house out and ask what’s up?
Even if they could explain, it’s an intriguing enough situation, right?
Or, perhaps you’re right… it’s best left alone.

  3. I’m sitting here with a stupid grin on my face. And I’m very glad your conversation is one that could be repeated for us!
My husband & I had a funny conversation this evening that had me just about ROTFL, but it is sadly unrepeatable… which is really too bad, because it WAS funny!!

Sounds like you are healthy again. Yay!!

    1. Karen — sometimes we have hysterical conversations that are just to intimate or personal to share, so I know just how you feel.

    1. Nessa — even though this comment has down right confused me I am so glad you left it. Odds are I might even figure out how to respond later. 😉
