Java Finch
Didn’t he pose pretty for the camera?
Java Finches (sometimes wrongly identified as Sparrows), are grain eaters.  Because of  their love of rice, they have been extensively hunted and are very rare in their native land.  They aren’t, however, on the endangered list.  Java Finch are a popular cage bird sought after for their beauty and their chirping song.
There is an extensive Java Finch population on Hawaii. It is believed that the first Java Sparrows came here as pets, then were released and thrived in the climate. These two were happily eating the heads of the grass seeds on the lawn at Chamanade University.

We’ve got so many weeds in our garden they’d be welcome here, if they’d eat the seeds of those too. Can I order a dozen? LOL

How pretty! Birds aren’t often still enough long enough to get a good photo.
