Finding an Apartment

I remember when I was planning to move from Lewiston, Idaho to Las Vegas, Nevada.  I knew no one in Vegas.  I was searching for an apartment online and knew nothing of the neighborhoods.  All I had was a city street map, a city transit schedule, and apartment rental ads.  I was terrified about where I might end up!

I actually used one of the national apartment finding services.  They provide reasonably thorough descriptions, almost always have photos and sometimes even have floor plans.  I managed to rent a decent apartment, but it wasn’t really in the best of neighborhoods.  I would have known that if the apartments ratings guide had been around back then.

Apartment Guide would have supplied me with the information I needed to choose a less industrial area which wouldn’t have been so dark and deserted at night.  The internet has changed the way people do business and plan their lives.  Places like Apartment Guide have made moving across country a little less risky.

  1. I remember when you were going through that experience and I was so proud and in awe of your ability to work through it so aptly. I have never had to be so brave. I love you and the woman you have become (even if I still think of you as the little girl)!!!!

  2. I always tried to find a place close to my employment. In California, that meant near UCLA and UCSF. In New York, that meant near Columbia. All full of students, which was just great.

  3. Yea… wow…. I remember when the only way to get an apartment shopping was going complex to complex and being shown a model… I thought to move across country you had to KNOW somebody who lived there! LOL!

The apartment site is a great resource!

  5. That was what was one thing sooooooo good about living in El Paso, there weren’t any bad neighborhoods. The whole city was integrated and very well kept. We lived in the poorest because of being GI’s. It was a mud stucko outside two room little unit. A Border Patrolman lived on one side, a young Hispanic couple and baby lived on the other. It was right behind a strip center on a busy thoroughfare but still very clean. And safe.
