When nine ice skaters plunged through the ice and into the frigid lake at Thyme City Park, ten year-old Justin Stitch witnessed the event. Thinking quickly, he grabbed the donut from the lifeguard stand and pulled everyone to safety. Today, Thyme City gifted Justin with a medal engraved: “A Stitch in Thyme Saves Nine.”

  1. Good one, Quilly. It’s odd though because I read a sad story behind a tombstone where parents witnessed all five of their children perishing in the ice when a frozen lake collapsed back in the 1800s. I couldn’t imagine…

    1. VE — my grandmother used to tell a similar story about her childhood, although it was the entire family, mom & dad included.

    1. Thom, I have no idea what life guard rings are called or made of in Hawaii, but at the pool I frequented as a kid, the ring was made a a tough, strofoam type materal and called a donut. You can eat them if you want, but I imagine they’re less than tasty. As to red arrows and juju, I have no clue what you’re babbling about. Should I?

    1. Susan — I actually started with the thought of naming the boy, Justin Thyme, but as the idea progressed the idiom came to mind and the rest is history.
