Punny Monday Announcement

At breakfast this morning (only toast and juice, don’t get all mouth-watery) Amoeba asked me why I didn’t have rotating posting times for Punny Monday. He pointed out that rotating posting times would be more fair to my players world-wide and everybody would have a chance at a decent time zone every now and then. I told him that I had considered it before, but I just wasn’t very good at keeping things like that straight in my head anymore and if I made a schedule I’d probably just lose it anyway.

No sooner had I said that then the obvious solution popped into my head — the calendar! So, from now on:

  • 1st Monday: 1:01 a.m.
  • 2nd Monday: 2:01 a.m.
  • 3rd Monday: 3:01 a.m.
  • 4th Monday: 4:01 a.m.
  • 5th Monday: 12:01 a.m.

The solution is remarkably straight forward and easy.  Not even I can lose every calendar in the house, on our cell phones, and on the computer all at once, and the formula for figuring out what time is easy!

Next Sunday, August 15th, 2010, Punny Monday will post at 3:01 a.m. PDST.  Please be aware that there will be a one hour shift in a couple of months when daylight savings time ends, but if it doesn’t catch me unaware, I’ll announce the change.

I hope this meets with your approval!

  1. The problem with this is it gives everyone in the European time zones the advantage always because it is their afternoons etc. It always has been. But doing this for like let’s say your Hawaiian time zone players it is always done late at night. And you look at your Pacific time zone. They are always getting the short end of the stick because it posts always during sleeping hours. If you truly want to make this fair for time zone you will rotate it every week by one hour, for 24 hours, so that each time zone get’s it posted at all hours. But hey, why should I give a rat’s ass anyway. I rarely even come close to getting the answer.

    1. Thom,
1.) I would never be able to keep track of what time I’m supposed to post.
2.) One the occasions when I have put Punny Monday up late in the day, nobody plays.
3.) Most people don’t consider 9 p.m. late night. Really.

  2. If there were fabulous cash prizes at stake, I could understand Thom’s angst…but it’s just a GUESS! My, perhaps a bit of testosterone driving his competitive spirit?

I often get them wrong or not all, so perhaps I’m in the boat with Nessa!

    1. Tilden — yeah, for almost 2 years midnight wherever I was was posting time. Now we’re going to play clock hopscotch and confuse everybody!
