Why I Haven’t Been Blogging
Since I knew any nice weather was a reprieve to be appreciated, I went out to do just that. Here’s what I came home with:
I went out to the Labs in the late afternoon to pick Amoeba up. He wasn’t quite ready to wrap up his experiment and asked me to return in an hour. Instead I went to my car and got my camera.  The mountain was basking in the sun and since I knew she would soon shroud herself in clouds for the winter, I took advantage of the time and captured her portrait.  I absolutely love the way the sun rays slanted across Cantilever point at an almost 95° angle. It’s pretty flattering on the mountain, too!  (Most of the equipment you see on Cantilever Point is weather measurement paraphernalia.)
Just a half an hour later I captured the evening ferry entering the harbor. It is still bright enough that her interior lights aren’t blazing yet.
Here the ferry, almost completely across the harbor, approaches the dock. I was facing east when I took the photograph up above. Here I am facing southeast and you can see the suns rays still reach the town of Friday Harbor even though the Lab grounds are in shadow.
Here I am still facing southeast, but I have pulled my focus back to include the shadowy foreground. I thought this tree deserved a portrait. I took over 50 pics in the hour. These are the best of the bunch. Don’t forget to double click & biggie them!

Mt. Baker, water, and ferries — you just took me down memory lane! (I grew up in Everett.)
That tree definitely deserved to be photographed.

Ah, so that’s where the nice weather is hanging out. We’ve been missing it here. Yesterday was wet and slushy, today gray and misty.
Those are lovely photos, especially the first and last.
Barbara — the nice weather just stopped by. It didn’t “hang out” for long.
The pics prove enjoying the scenery was a much better idea than blogging! 🙂

They are all so beautiful. The mountain looks like it is floating in the sky. You spent your hour in a much better pursuit than blogging.
Nessa — actually, I spent pretty much that whole day out bumming around taking snaps and enjoying the sunshine. I only shared an hour of it with you.
And you came home with such lovely photos too … Mt Baker is spectacular!

Karen — Mt. Hood is outside Portland, Oregon and way too far away to be seen from here, but the two peaks are relatives.

My husband, Jerry, was pumped up with all the positive comments about his Clint Eastwood story for Microfiction Monday. So now I’ll ask him more often to contribute! Thanks for your nice comments. I, too, laughed when he came up with that story.
Pat — the color of the bay had a lot to do with the quickly gathering shadows. Usually it is steel blue or a dull gray. I did pick an awesome moment for my photo shoot.
I hope you and Jerry continue posting together. The double-header was grand.

Gattina — since this island makes it’s living off tourism, that might be a good thing.
Your photography continues to inspire! Wow. I agree that the last one is great for a mystery. Wait — is that a body slipping off the back of the ferry? Oh no? WHO DONE IT?
Kelley — if you could see a body slipping off the back of the ferry from that distance, then you’re the detective because you obviously have eagle eyes!
As always, your photos are great! They could all be postcards. Glad you are taking the time to enjoy your surroundings and capture these moments with your camera.

Gorgeous, especially that last one. You really do live in paradise.
PS I suspect the reason the stairs are offset is so that a cart can’t run all the way down. The breaks make it easier to shlep up and down (important when you can’t bring a car into the neighborhood).

Pink Lady — we are blessed to live here. These views aren’t from our home. They are from the college campus where Amoeba works. In fact, the first view can be seen from his lab.
