How To Reach Your Full Potential For God, by Charles Stanley

I was excited to get, How To Reach Your Full Potential For God, by Charles Stanley.  I know it is time to refocus my life in service to God, and since I enjoy and benefit from Charles Stanley’s radio sermons, I thought this book would be perfect.  Alas — not so much.

Stanley’s “How to” book, in my opinion, would work much better as a group study then a solitary read.  Interestingly enough, there is a study guide. If I weren’t already so burnt-out from the enormous task of trying to read and utilize the suggestions and information in the book — and answering the hundreds of soul-searching questions — I might buy the study and give it another go.  Maybe later, after I’ve let my brain rest and recoup.

I am sad that I cannot recommend this book.  I have long been an admirer of Charles Stanley, but I think this theme is just too ambitious for one reader to tackle by him- or herself.

I am a member of the Thomas Nelson “Book Sneeze” blogger program and would like to thank Thomas Nelson Publishers for providing me with a copy of this book to review.

  1. I LOVE Charles Stanley! My absolute favorite of his was Living The Extraordinary Life, followed closely by Finding Peace. I still have a couple of his that I have not read yet – and haven’t even ordered this one you mention yet… when it comes to books, I’m BOOKED!

    1. Melli — I have always loved Charles Stanley, too. I will always love his radio sermones and I have read a couple of his other books. This book, however, is not for simply reading. It is for very slow ingestion and study.

    1. Linda — smaller books or marketed as a study so one is aware of what what s/he is signing up for. This is very different from other Charles Stanley books. That doesn’t make it bad, just mis-marketed.

  2. No Quilly, isn’t it hard to say you can’t read a book of a company who wants to sell books by good reviews?
A friend gave me a copy of Stanley’s ‘Living the Extraordinary Life.’ I haven’t read it but may at least pick and poke in it a little. The friend said I needed the book. I am not sure. I have been living an extraordinary life but am retired from that now. 🙂

    1. Jim — they ask me to be honest. I was honest. And the hardest part of writing this review is that I very much like and admire Charles Stanley and have learned much from his teachings.
