Jacob’s degree program required an algebra class. He petitioned the dean’s office demanding a release from the class without penalty. The dean wanted to know why.

“I can’t take algebra,” Jacob explained, “Because exponents are against my religion.”

“That’s preposterous!” The dean snapped.

“I am an atheist,” Jacob explained. “I don’t believe in higher powers.”
