Random Dozen Meme

I stole this meme from Barbara.  Melli did, too.  Only Melli says she got the meme from Barbara who got it from Susanne who got it from Linda. Where ever it came from, here it is:

The Random Dozen Meme

1. When you go to Wowmart, what one thing do you get every single time, besides a funky-wheeled squeaking cart full of frustration?
Usually lunch at Wendy’s, because it’s right next door! 😉

2. What is something that people are currently “into” that you just don’t get or appreciate?
Okay, I have no trouble with Facebook, itself, but what’s with all those cutesy add-ons? Most of them suck up time and energy and provide no value. So please, stop sending me hugs and throwing food at me and buying me flowers or whatever because I’ve decided I am finished with all the nonsense! You want to catch me up on your life, fine. You want to catch me upside my virtual head with a virtual pie, I’m virtually not interested.

3. What is something that really hoists your sail that other people might feel “ho-hum” about?
PUNS! I love puns.

4. Favorite song to sing in the shower or car?
Usually whatever hymn is playing in my head.

5. A really great salad must have this ingredient:
Blue cheese! Dill weed. Spinach. Purple onions. Sunflower seeds.

6. Advice in a nutshell to new bloggers (one or two sentences):
Visit other people’s blogs, leave behind genuine, thoughtful comments, and your popularity will be assured.

7. What was the alternate name that your parents almost named you? Do you wish they had chosen it instead of the one they gave you?
Please remember, I was born when the sex of the child was determined by wives tales, not science. My parents planned to name me Charles, Jr. I am just as happy that they didn’t.

8. What in your life are you waiting for?
My Amoeba. Always. I am waiting for him right now. Sometimes I wait for him to come home from work, or from band practice, or from choir practice or from ……

9. You get a package in the mail. What is it, and who is it from?
Well, currently I am hoping it is from Diesel and has a book in it. I am also expecting a book and music from Barbara. I run to greet the mailman joyfully every day, but receive only bills, which make me very sad.

10. Today–what song represents you?

11. What is one thing that blogging has taught you about yourself?
Blogging has taught me that I am a very little fish in a very big pond. Blogging has connected me to wonderful people and wonderful things (and not-so-wonderful people and not-so-wonderful things). I’ve learned much about the world that I might never have known had I not started to blog.

12. How are you going to (or how did you) choose the clothes you’re wearing today? What do they say about you in general or specifically how you’re feeling today?
I walked into the bedroom and picked up the two coolest clean things and then I put them on. They say I am hot and sweaty and if I had curtains on my windows – which I don’t – I would be naked.

  1. I am with you on the Facebook issue. It seems that it is all so good that we’d better see. Yet we can’t see unless we sign up. Boo his, the Internet is made to be FREE!

Congrats on your Web site making for your church. It looks good. I wish I could do that!

I came peeking in here to see if you’d done 6WS this week. Yes, you weren’t on the Mr. Linky but I decided to peek in anyway. I am glad I did, this meme is cleverly written. 🙂

      1. Quilly, if you are serious about wanting to do 6WS I can remind you next week. I got shut out of Mr. Linky last week so now I do it on time. I really would like to do it on Sunday’s, for Saturday.
To me it is a fun little ‘no think’ post. I suppose most of mine are that.

.-= Jim´s last blog ..One Single Impression: Romance =-.

        1. Jim — I actually have it on feed reader. I read the post and knew I should make mine, but I was busy and thought, “I’ll do it in the morning.” Well, when morning came, I forgot. So you see, even if you reminded me, it wouldn’t have helped! But thank you for offering!

  2. Quilly you said: ‘Blogging has taught me that I am a very little fish in a very big pond.’ – I love this, and it is so so true. Great advice for new bloggers #6. Many times I get these messages from someone who just launched blog saying hey I love your blog, come and visit mine – okay, I will be there soon dahhhh. Facebook – you got that right, in general I think facebook is total waste of time. Every time I finish facebooking, lol, I feel like a vegetable who forgot to drink water….exhausting, and not rewarding at all….

Quilly great post, and thanks for the laughs.

    Anna 🙂

    1. Anna — I got a very similar comment today — while I was composing this meme and just moments before I answered question #6. [shakes head] Some people are socially clueless.

  3. Facebook can be great, but it can be such a time sucker! I have been known to throw food in the past too, but that was until I realized how ridiculous all this really is! But it’s a great way to stay in touch with my daughter, she reads my blog through Facebook, there is the occasional hello, or hug from her, that’s the part I do love about it. But I’m not starting a farm at Farmville, I’ve seen it happen, and those who get hooked do little else! Thanks but no thanks, there are never enough hours in a day as it is for me!!
So they wanted to call you Charles too eh? Heehee, if I had been a boy, my grandfather wanted to call me Karel, which is the Flemish version of Charles!!
And I love your advice to bloggers, real heartfelt comments is what creates blogger friendships, and I’m grateful having met you in this big pond of fish!! And soon I’m going to meet you and Melli and Thom and a whole bunch of other tiny little fish for real, and I know that is going to be awesome!! Something I never would have believed when I first started blogging!
.-= Jientje´s last blog ..Weekly Winners, the Food Edition … =-.

    1. Jientje — I haven’t hooked up my blog to automatically post on FaceBook. I should, but I don’t know how and everything about that site sucks time and energy!

Also, I spent quite a bit of time throwing food on Facebook so I wouldn’t alienate people, but it was a total waste of time and energy.

  4. Quilly, I’m glad you decided to join in. Facebook and Twitter seem to be the two most popular responses to #2. I wonder if that’s because die-hard bloggers are the ones responding? I have a FB account, but I don’t sling food, etc.

The salad responses have been varied. You’re very specific! I love dill weed, too.

Linda from “Mocha with Linda” loves puns. If you visit, tell her I sent you.

Thanks for playing along. I’m posting another dozen Wednesday.

    1. Linda — I have been very serious about my salads lately. When one lives in this heat, fruits and vegetables are about the only thing one wishes to eat because they don’t require cooking.

  5. I am forever being invited to this or that on the Facebook. When I first got into the Facebook I’d throw this or that or whatever application was thrown at me. Soon I got tired of having all these invitations. I don’t use my Facebook much now, I will send messages or maybe comment on something that a friend posted but this is about it.

Great advice for the New Bloggers Quilly, I may even grab this and do it up today.

    Wonderful Post

  6. I used to do some of the “extras” on Facebook — sending cookies and chocolate and flowers — but it gets old fast. I do like it for keeping n touch with people I don’t see or talk to often and finding old friends. I don’t like it when people post new updates 5-10 times a day, though.

I love puns, too. Wish I’d thought of that! Do you read ivman? I’ve linked to him sometimes. He posts a lot of puns.

I hope to get your package off to you this week. I had planned to last week but had to work on the newsletter for out ladies’ group and just got it done yesterday.

I don’t think we’d be eating the same salad. 🙂 I like spinach, but otherwise mine salads are pretty basic.

Not to toot my own horn or anything…but I noticed the site under Punny Monday at the top right is Thumbelina’s rather than mine….
.-= Barbara H.´s last blog ..Turn your eyes upon Jesus… =-.

    1. Oh, Barbara, I am so sorry! I forgot all about changing the link! Now that I am am unemployed nothing is getting done. I NEED deadlines and structure!

  7. WHY ME LORD!? That song is STILL listed as my FAVORITE hymn on my church registration form! I looooooooove that song … I always have! I think I was the only one in my group of teen friends who had his album! THAT album! Thank you for putting that link in! I’m going to go listen again before I leave here!

I LOVED reading this meme from you! You made fun but open and honest answers! 🙂 You should do mOre meme’s! Yes… you should!
.-= Melli´s last blog ..Summer Stock Sunday =-.

    1. Melli, I had that album, too — and I am thinking about buying it again! And there’s a whole sermon in that song, isn’t there?

  8. You and me both on the Facebook thing. I love how it’s reconnected me with a whole crowd of nieces and nephews and old friends. But AAAGGHH stop sending me puppies and quizzes and huggie-wuggies and whatevers! I feel guilty hitting the ignore-all button once in a while but I’m gonna do it anyway…
    LOL

Buy some curtains and get naked Q, you’ll save on laundry bills? How I *wish* I had that problem but I’m sitting here with the heat on and fuzzy socks. This sub-arctic living sucks.
.-= Susan at Stony River´s last blog ..Just Draggin’ Along =-.

    1. Susan — yeah, I’ve hooked up with a couple of my high school friends and my cousins, which is great, but can’t I just love and appreciate seeing pics of them and their kids without chasing squirrels out of their garden or signing up for their causes or becoming a mafia hit man (woman)?

  9. I herewith leave a genuine and thoughtful comment !

I don’t like Facebook at all, I subscribed just to see pictures my son had put there and now I am invaded by people I don’t even know or at least don’t remember. I just ignore !
I also have something against these memes, you are the 3rd edition I read, lol !
    .-= Gattina´s last blog .. =-.

  10. I can’t do with Facebook either. I did Twitter but am getting bored with it. As for blogging, boredom is impossible. I just need to write, and if you write you need to be read. And you’re absolutely right about visiting other blogs. It’s a great experience.
    .-= Anthony North´s last blog ..HYPOCRISY =-.

    1. Tony — I am on Facebook, but I visit the site about once per week or so. I tried Twitter, but it bored me. I am not delusional enough to think anybody really cares where I am every minute of the day; and I am not willing to encourage those who are that delusional.
