It’s that time again! Lidna over at 2nd Cup of Coffee has come up with 12 more questions. I just love her memes. They make me think!

1. On an average, how often do you splurge and buy something for yourself?
Well, at least once a week I have a candy bar. I used to buy books on a regular basis and a DVD every now and then, but since I am not working I’ve put the breaks on — except I was recently given a gift certificate for the mall and I spent the entire thing on novels! I tried to get one for Amoeba, too, but he wouldn’t let me spend my girft money on him.

2. Are you more like Hall or Oates? Well I’m NOT quiet.
Just kidding. Real question: What is the last creative project you began/finished? Feel free to post a pic of it.
That would be Melli’s Photo Challenge and it is already posted.

3. OK, Goldie Locks, do you consider your house too big, too little or juuuust right?
Well, that depends on what I am doing. When I am trying to put stuff away, it is too small. When I am vacuuming and mopping, it is too big!

4. What is your favorite outdoor chore?
Watering the flowers!

5. If you knew that cigarette smoking was not bad for your health but would be a weight loss tool, would you use it? Why or why not?
Uhm, considering that I smoked for 20 years and it was my weight-loss tool, I guess I’d have to say yes. (I have been smoke-free since May 5th, 1997.) On the other hand, the expense — and the fact that Amoeba would never kiss me again — makes me say no.

6. On a road trip, would you rather drive or ride?
I love taking road trips alone, and then of course I drive. If, however, I am road tripping with someone, I prefer they drive so I can gawk and nap.

7. What do you consider a trivial pursuit?
Hmmm. How about trying to come up with an answer to this question?

8. This weekend, we downloaded the movie “Duplicity” with Julia Roberts and Clive Owen. Within 5 minutes, I was bored and annoyed, but I kept watching 5-10 minutes at a time hoping it would get better between small chores. I finally gave up and Jorge watched it alone, and then regretted wasting that time because he disliked it intensely, too. So … how long do you watch a movie or read a book before giving up on it?
If a movie is boring, I tend to wander off, either mentally or physically, and forget to come back. Pretty much the same thing happens if a book is boring. There is a book by my bed right now that has been over a month untouched. I left off on page 33. I might as well return it to the person who loaned it to me because I really don’t think I’m going to finish it.

9. Is there a song that you really love but are embarrassed to admit because it’s not cool or it’s racy or because it’s by Hall and Oates?
Abba — it isn’t cool to like Abba, but I do.

10. On a scale of 1-10 (10 = extremely) how spontaneous are you?
I say 10, Amoeba says 8. That surprises me. He is very deliberate and plans everything. I expected him to consider me “out there”. I must be mellowing in my old age.

11. Are you a food and/or beverage snob?
I don’t think so. I will turn up my nose if you put sugar in my coffee or tea, but I won’t turn up my nose if you put it in yours. I prefer Pepesi, but I will drink Coke. I have preferred brands in many items, but if I can’t get them I will substitute.

12. Who/What are you trying to control in your life?
Amoeba and I discussed this over dinner. He said I am the least controlling person he has ever met. I agreed. I don’t even work much at controlling the things I should — like my weight. And then Amoeba said I am very particular about my moral space and am very strict about maintaining my own beliefs. I have to agree with him. I guard my intergrity quite zealously.

  1. I couldn’t agree more about Duplicity – the only thing that kept me watching it was that I was trapped in a plane at the time – not too many alternatives! I agree about the smoking too – I’d go back tomorrow if only I could, and I’ve been smoke-free for ten years already.

  2. I haven’t smoked in 23 years but wish I could. Sometimes I can still taste cigarettes. I loved smoking.

I drink Diet Coke never ever Pepsi. I like Bombay Sapphire Gin but hate Tanqueray. But these choices are strictly flavor induced. In general i am a reverse snob. I am never impressed by a name, only the actual value I place on something.

    1. Oh, Nessa — me, too, on the reverse snob thing. I so do not need to buy someone else’s cool. I have enough of my own, thank you! (And I’m modest and charming, too!)

  3. Those are really great answers; I enjoyed reading. You’ve reminded me how I used to love solitary drives… hmm, a reason to get my driver’s license again? lol

Funny, I used to smoke too and know a lot of ex-smokers, and I’m curious now as to the biggest factor that made you quit? Because out of all of my old friends, we all quit because of the expense, or the smell (especially that stale old smell in fabric, bleugh) or some kind of peer pressure: a new boyfriend who couldn’t stand it, for instance. Not ONE of us put health first–it was just a bonus after the main reason–, and here I have a sister who died of lung cancer. Go figure.

    1. Susan — I quit smoking when I was student teaching. I taught an anti-smoking lesson, then went out to the parking lot for my cigarette. I lit it and stood looking at it. The thought going through my mind was if the kids saw me smoking they would think the lesson a lie, and if they couldn’t trust me to teach them correctly about their health, why would they trust me to teach them anything else? I put out the cigarette, dropped all my cigarettes and lighter in the dumpster and that was pretty much that.

    1. Joyce — I am pretty sure you’re right about the Abba thing, otherwise they wouldn’t still be popular 20 years after their last album!

      #7 — it seemed self-explanatory.

  4. WE are so much alike it’s really scary sometimes! LOL! I keep asking myself “can there reallllllly be TWO of me in this world?” We are like bookends! EXCEPT – in our reading! WHAT IS that book that you stopped on page 33? I’d probably LOVE it! hehehe…

I really REALLY loved your answer to #12.
    .-= Melli´s last blog ..Random Dozen #6… SHAMEFUL Stuff… & ASilly Haiku =-.

    1. Melli — I really, really loved Amoeba’s answer when I asked him about #12. And the book is “A Short History of Tractors in the Ukrainian”. It is about a man in his 80s with the hots for a gold digging woman in her thirties and it is written from the view point of the disenfranchised daughter. It has some moments of humor, but I just don’t care for the morals and values of the characters of the judgmental attitude of the narrator.

  5. Good here, Quilly. I came to see how your water was doing. Did NONE of your neighbors offer you water or a shower? Not even the lady who said ‘shut it off?’

I am glad you are back. You must have done all these posts in the hotel and saved them on your word processor. Then you came home and pasted and posted. Right?

I have done a little of that with the word processor BUT YOU HAVE HALF A DOZEN POSTS for yesterday, the day you moved in.
    ..
BTW, I like Diet Coke. I may leave if they have Pepsi instead, or I may have water.

    1. Jim, well, the landlady offered us use of her bathroom and her laundry room, but we didn’t choose to accept the offer. They already have 5 kids, two adults and two dogs. Their bathroom doesn’t need anymore stress.

We only stayed in the hotel Thursday and Friday. The rest of the time we camped here at home. (See Amoeba’s post.) I did not just move in yesterday and the posts were not written ahead — and I only wrote 3! 😉

  6. Thanks Charlene! 🙂
I have added yours blog to my reader also. I think between you, Melli and Jientje I have found some really funny people who I plan to follow(stalk) diligently! 🙂 (and get to know more of you).
How did you come to the name Quilly? Sounds interesting.
    .-= Betty´s last blog ..Random dozen – meme =-.

    1. Betty — In 1997 I sold a couple of short stories, decided I was a writer and picked the online name “Quilldancer” — a quill being an old fashioned ink pen. My friends have shorted in to Quilly — and Thom actually shortened that to Q.

  7. I would have guessed you were more on the spontaneous end of the scale, so no surprises there. 🙂

    Love your answer to #12.

A lot of these questions could be taken many different directions.

  8. Quilly, yes that was a potato masher I wove my basket around, and let me tell ya it wasnt easy, I go to a basket class once a month and I think the teacher is running out of new and interesting ideas, its alot of fun.

  9. If you change your mind, I’m the first in line, honey I’m still free….take a chance on me….

Love love love Abba! Did you see Mamma Mia? It is my all time favorite chick flick.

I saw your quaint little white church. It is VERY similar to the one I posted today. I know nothing about the little old abandoned church. It is less than 2 miles from my home and I pass it every day. One of the windows was broken out and I was also able to get a photo of the inside too. Just a shame.

  10. I didn’t know I was supposed to not like ABBA. I’ve always liked ABBA! Strangely enough, I don’t own any of their CDs, albums, or cassettes. Go figure!

Good for you, giving up cigarettes! I know they are a tough habit to break.
If they weren’t bad for me and didn’t stink and taste awful, I might consider them as a weight-loss tool. Obviously that isn’t going to happen!

  11. How could I have missed that one? Aaaargh, I’m terrible these past few days. On Monday I was out in the afternoon, Tuesday I had crappy Internet ALL day, yesterday, I worked on my lace and today, it’s Thursday already! Geezz! I keep running behind!

Watering flowers and a little bit of gardening on the patio is one of my favorite outside chores as well, and if a book or a film does not “grab” me right from the start, I also feel it’s a waste of time. Not enough time to read much books though.

And about smoking, I was a smoker almost all my life and I loved it. If it was not bad for my health anymore, and it would control my weight I would be VERY tempted. But then,it would still cost an awful lot of money, it would still smell bad, AND the thought of never getting kissed again, THAT does it!!! Won’t touch it!

I think we’ll get along great!!
Now about that Abba song, I have no idea. I just woke up with that song in my head. And it’s still there. I have no idea how it got there? It must be a case of “great minds….” LOL!! I LOVE it when things like this happen!! There is no such thing as a coincidence!

PS: Thank the Internet gods for spell check. I checked this comment and that’s when I saw I had watered my followers!! ROFLMAO!!!

  12. Quilly, you have offered up great answers once again. Wow-look at all the comments you received on this post! You go, girl. Thank you for actually answering the music question thereby alleviating my pain in being so transparent! ABBA! I love “Take a Chance on Me.” It think it’s my fave. So much good stuff, but I’ve gotta move on. Good job!
