About the Book:

She was waiting for love–and found it in the most unexpected place.

Jorie King’s life is on hold. She has been waiting for Ben Zook to return to Lancaster County. Waiting for him to settle down and join the church. Waiting to marry him.

But when news arrives that Ben has been killed, Jorie is devastated. She finds unlikely comfort in the friendship of his brother Caleb. Friendship ripens into love, and two broken hearts plan for a life filled with the promise of a fresh beginning–until their worlds are turned upside down.

With her realistic characters whose weaknesses develop into strengthes, Suzanne Woods Fisher offers a reading experience that rises above the others. You will love growing in spirit with these complex people living the simple life as The Waiting transports you into a world where things aren’t as simple as they seem.

My Thoughts:
Even though this is Book 2 in the Lancaster County Secrets series, it is a stand alone story complete in its own right. It is also an excellent read. This is a story about real-to-life people who try to live in accordance with their own beliefs, but don’t always succeed — not perfect people, but people who suffer from pride, anger, jealousy and all of the other sins that plague you and me. This book, without being preachy or self-righteous, clearly portrays how wrong choices and sins impact families and even communities, and how faith and trust in God can heal.

If you like stories about strong, complicated and conflicted characters, you will like, The Waiting.  As I read I found myself impressed with how well Fisher individualized each character.  She also did an excellent job of creating a saga that read with the ease and tension of a fast-paced short story.  This book is staying in my personal library and the other books in the series will soon be joining it.

    1. Barbara — I thought the writing, characterization and storytelling were all outstandingly done in this book. I don’t know Beverly Lewis’ work, so I can give a comparison, but perhaps you can ask Linda.

  1. Hi Quilly!

Loved your review of “The Waiting!” You know what really meant so much to me? That you want to keep the book in your home library. That is HUGE to me! I’m fussy about the books I keep…I have a little house and not much space, so a book has to be one that I go to again and again to earn its spot in the shelf!

Thank you for your thoughtful words and for being a part of the blog tour!

    Warmly, Suzanne
