Who’s Comforting Who?

The scream woke her. Her heart was pounding, her palms were sweaty, and she was trembling. The scream had been her own. She tried to remember the dream but couldn’t.

He gathered her close and held her tight. She cuddled and thought about how wonderful and loving and kind and considerate He is.

Finally, calmer, she said. “That really scared me.”

And he answered dryly, “Yeah, well, it didn’t do a lot for me, either.”
