Ruby Cock-a-Tuesday-Doo!

Our Ruby Tuesday host is Mary, the Teach.

On Tuesdays you can post any photo you like (it must be one of your own) that contains the color RED. Your photo can contain lots of RED or a little bit of RED.

Rooster

.

This fella was strutting around and through an open air restaurant. Lanai dining is popular here in Hawaii and all that food attracts wildlife. It is not at all unusual for birds and cats to congregate at such establishments, though the birds are usually Bulbuls and Brazilian Cardinals.

Quilly is the pseudonym of Charlene L. Amsden, who lives on The Big Island in Hawaii. When she is not hanging out with Amoeba, she is likely teaching or sewing. Or she could be cooking, taking photographs, or even writing. But if she's not doing any of that, she's probably on Facebook or tinkering with her blog.

  1. Quite a fine looking rooster. Your mention of Bulbuls made me a bit nostalgic. They used to come to our bird feeder when we still lived in Honolulu. (They were piggies, too, but never mind!) I’ve never seen one here on the Big Island. Here the piggies at the feeder are the Java Sparrows.

    Happy Ruby Tuesday.

  2. Wow, what a proud rooster ! I am sure he has a lot of success with the chickens, lol !
I am participating too for the first time !

  3. I enjoy outdoor dining in nice weather, but if there was a rooster around, I’m thinking it might not be as wonderful as it could have been. Roosters sort of freak me out anyway. They can peck hard!

When we were in Key West last year there are chickens roaming the streets and are protected by law.

  4. Bobbie — — the Bulbuls haven’t made it to all the islands? I’m surprised! Even so, Java Sparrows are cute, and you’ve got those vibrant little Yellow Sparrows, too. I liked watching those when I visited your beautiful island.

    Ilana — that’s a rooster for you ….

Jientje — I thought he was exceptionally bright and shiny.

Mumma — grab the jewel, sign up at Mary’s and join us every Tuesday. Elijah will always qualify because of his glorious hair!

Gattina — welcome to Ruby Tuesday. I am certain you will provide grand pictures.

Melli — I’m attracted to them, too — in my soup.

Tink — at times it is startling, but mostly it is just charming.

    Minkydo — royal, even.

Amber — this one seemed to know his place. He patrolled the edge of the lanai, but never ventured onto it.

Robert — I had a heck of a time capturing him, though. They move so abruptly my old point and shoot camera was having fits trying to focus.

    Ellen — thank you.

Mimi — thanks. I’ll be right over.

Shelly — this one commanded my attention through most of lunch!

  5. he is quite a handsome fella

On Long Island there’s a restaurant on the sound and all the birds sit on the rail and watch you eat.

For some reason they always come closest to me!

  6. Struttin’ his stuff, no doubt! He is sort of brave to be hanging around a restaurant. Walking so cocksure, he he doesn’t realize that he might be the special dish du jour…

  7. Polona — judging by my sandwich, I’d say: the deep fat fryer.

Brian — his wife was my lunch.

Dianne — here there is a restaurant where the birds will get in your plate and help you eat.

Ralph — I believe he was search for his mate ….

Raven — you mean cocksure? [smirk]

  8. What a colorful rooster. I just photographed one last week, at the zoo, but my guy wasn’t nearly as colorful as yours. He’s enjoying strutting his stuff…

  9. I really love chickens, Quilly, and used to have a bunch. I especially love Bantams. They are always so beautiful, especially of course, the roosters. This boy you show us is gorgeous and a perfect fit for Ruby Tuesday.

    Have a wonderful day!

  10. Whoof!!! That’s a beautiful boy bird. I tried to play woof Mom’s chickens a couple times, but they just laid down and went to sleep. Even when I barked at ’em to get up an’ play they just laid there sleepin’. Even when Mom came out to see what I was barkin’ at and picked ’em up they didn’t wake up. Chickens must like to sleep a lot. Mom throwed away the ones that went to sleep in my dog run. I stopped playin’ woof ’em and just ignored ’em cuz they are so silly.

    Happy WW!
