Random Dozen ~ 08-18-10

This time I am only 20+ hours late posting my Random Dozen.  I’m getting better!  Thank you, Linda (aka Lid or Lidna) at 2nd Cup of Coffee.

1. What is your favorite fair/carnival food?
Today it was fresh, homemade fudge. From my childhood it was corn dogs. Tomorrow, it will be something else …

2. Are you holding onto something you need to let go of?
Failure.

3. What is your favorite gift to receive?
Time. Come visit with me, have some tea, play a board game. Laugh and have fun. That’s the best gift ever.

4. When was the last time you tried something new?
Today. I am running a booth at the fair for the first time ever.

5. What is your favorite and least favorite book genre?
Fave: fantasy
Least Fave: horror

6.Silver or Gold?
Gold.

7. What makes you sigh?
What kind of sigh? Happy, sad, exasperated, angry, rueful, annoyed, …. this question just made me sigh. It is frustratingly vague — that’s it! Frustration makes me sigh.

8. If you didn’t know how old you are, how old would you claim you are?
Today I am 99. I have a myriad of aches and pains resulting from a lot of flailing and a near fall.

9. Would you break a law to save a loved one? To protect a loved one?
Would I jay walk,. Sure. Would I commit murder. No. These questions are remarkably vague, don’t you think?

10. If you had to teach something, what would it be?
School? That is my vocation ….

11. You’re having lunch with 3 people whom you respect and admire. They begin to criticize a close friend of yours, not knowing she is your friend. What do you do?
I speak up. I tell them the person is a friend of mine and I give her good qualities. I know that’s what I do because I have done it.

12. Which of the 5 Love Languages is your prominent means of experiencing love? (Quality Time, Physical Touch, Acts of Service, Gifts, Words of Affirmation)
I scored 9 in words of affirmation and 8 in physical touch. The results did not surprise me in the least.

Do you know your love language? Take the test:

Not sure which is your most prominent love language? Take the quiz!

  1. Frustration does make me sigh, too. I feel the same way about #8. All of a sudden I’m full of aches and pains in my side and now shin splints. Sheesh! I never had these 10 years ago! Sigh…

  2. I scored 9 in words of Affirmation as well. It was a surprise to me, because I so seldom hear them, that I didn´t even know I was missing them…. 🙂

    1. Could be cultural. Some years ago, when I was working Down Under, the question of affirmation came up at work, and the Head of Department (British) shot back, “It’s not customary here to expect praise for duties that are performed as a matter of course.” I hope that “Barney and Friends” never made it South – the Head would likely have died of apoplexy had he seen it.

  3. Yup good answer about the sigh. I think I’m ok not knowing what the heck a love language is. Invented categories make me sigh.

  4. But with aches and all I’m sure your having fun. You just seem to not let that get ya down. My husband says at our age if we didn’t wake up in pain, we might should look around for to see if we were in heaven.

  5. Hey, I love languages. Wish they’d do a better job of loving me back. I have a hard enough time with English, never mind tongues like Korean or Hindi.

  6. Oh my, what a questionary ! You must feel like a star who had been interviewed.
I would teach “take it easy” !
I am back from England and am mourning today !

  7. I would have thought your love language was time based on your answer to # 3.

I wish I had thought to mention horror — that would definitely be the least favorite!!

Go ahead and let go of that failure. Learn from it, but then let it go.

  8. a bit of ranting spices up the matter (i do it, too) and makes things interesting (actually, i loved your rant) but nobody forces anybody to do these memes, right?

  9. I would break several laws to save a loved one… and murder MIGHT be one of them! It would not be premeditated… but if it was in defense of someone who was defenseless at that moment… it could happen.

My love language is quality time — and I would like the same gifts as you! Always my desired gift has more to do with spending time together than with receiving anything! Coincidentally, Dennis is leaving for his vacation on my birthday! 😉

  10. .
Word of inspiration for me followed by deeds of affection. 🙂
Stands to reason, those were the choices to make.
Guess I’m a ‘whisper in my ear’ touchy feely kind of guy.
    ..

  11. Oh I agree with the time thing!

And late is better than never… like me… I didn’t post at all this week for Random Dozen because I had scheduled a 75 Questions about Me post for the same day (wasn’t thinking) and thought that the random dozen on top of it was going a bit overboard for the week.
