Baby, It’s Cold Outside

Whenever I pick up a Susan May Warren book, I know to also grab a box of tissue for my tears and to make certain I’m somewhere I can laugh out loud. Susan doesn’t use mere words to tell her stories, she uses pure, undistilled emotion. Baby It’s Cold Outside, is no exception. I was hooked from the first sentence and didn’t stop reading until the final period on the last page.

Baby It’s Cold Outside is going on my keeper shelf. I expect I will make a yearly pilgrimage to Frost, Minnesota and spend the 1949 Christmas holidays stranded in Dottie Morgan’s quaint Victorian house with her and her four reluctant visitors as they learn how powerful love and forgiveness can be.

I highly recommend this book. In fact, if you’ve read my other reviews you know that I highly recommend any and all Susan May Warren books.

Heiress, Daughters of Fortune

I have yet to meet a Susan May Warren novel I didn’t love.  Her versatility as a writer is absolutely amazing.  Her light contemporary romances have tickled and charmed me.  Her historical romances resonate with the sight, sounds, and scents of the era.  Her characters are well-rounded, flawed, and so incredibly real that I emerse myself in their sorrows and joys as I would members of my own household.   Heiress is no exception — in fact, Heiress just might be Susan’s best book to date, and that is no small fete.

About the Book:
The beautiful heiress daughters of newspaper magnate August Price have been given everything their hearts desire. But what if they want only to be loved–without an enormous price tag attached? When one daughter pursues a desirable marriage, she secures for herself a comfortable and glamorous life. But among the duties of privilege, will she also find the happily-ever-after she seeks? Her sister rejects the trappings of wealth, choosing instead to build a new life on the still-untamed frontier. Will she find happiness in independence or discover that she’s left her heart behind in New York’s glittering society? Set in the opulent world of the Gilded Age, each woman discovers that being an heiress just might cost her everything–including the chance for true love.

My Foolish Heart

Is there anything more, heady, wonderful, joyous, and down-right terrifying than falling in love?  That first exhilarating rush of emotion comes with more highs and lows than the most twisted roller-coaster ride ever devised by man.  Susan May Warren has managed to capture that euphoria and angst and weave it throughout the pages of  My Foolish Heart.

Issy, Caleb, and the other characters that populate Deep Haven are straight-forward, down-to-earth, flawed individuals trying to live the best lives they know how.  They are just ordinary people like you and me — and they came off the pages and into my heart with incredible ease.  This story took me from laughing out loud to sniveling in my hanky and back again.   When I got to the last page and closed the cover I wasn’t ready to leave Deep Haven.  Happily, there are several more book in the series so I won’t have to just yet.

About the Book:

Unknown to her tiny town of Deep Haven, Isadora Presley spends her nights as Miss Foolish Heart, the star host of a syndicated talk radio show. Millions tune in to hear her advice on dating and falling in love, unaware that she’s never really done either. Issy’s ratings soar when it seems she’s falling in love on-air with a caller. A caller she doesn’t realize lives right next door.

Caleb Knight served a tour of duty in Iraq and paid a steep price. The last thing he wants is pity, so he hides his disability and moves to Deep Haven to land his dream job as the high school football coach. When his beautiful neighbor catches his eye, in a moment of desperation he seeks advice from My Foolish Heart, the show that airs before his favorite sports broadcast.

Before he knows it, Caleb finds himself drawn to the host—and more confused than ever. Is his perfect love the woman on the radio . . . or the one next door?
