Timely Endeavor

Today a man came to fix the clock in my classroom. I put the work order in the very first day of the school year — the 2005-2006 school year! All last year I waited — and complained, and called. This year I didn’t even bother. I just went out and bought my own plastic wall clock and put it up! However, one of my loving and considerate co-workers turned in a work order for me — and now my clock works.

Estella, if you are reading this, from now on you are turning in all of my work orders. Apparently you have clout. (The air conditioner isn’t working. hint, hint)

  1. If I were you, I’d try submitting a work order to have the heat turned up in your wing. One of 2 things would happen: They’d come to do the job, do it wrong, and the air conditioning would be back to normal, or they’d come down to see who the crazy teacher is and you could hold them hostage until they fixed the air!

    Just a thought…

  2. Joe — Diabolically brilliant.

Cindra — Good advice is rare. It should be admired.

Robert — some days it moves unbearably slowly for me, too. This wasn’t one of those days. When it was time to go the kids were all shocked and saying, “Already?!” I love it when the days pop.

  3. You are more than welcome. I did not break the clock when I returned the room back to you, honest:)
    About the air….

  4. Estella, that’s right! YOU had the room for the year they took it away from me and exiled 5th grade to the portables. Note to self: blame all maintenance issues on Estella …..

  5. Maintenance people who work for the public seem to be in their own little world. I have seen a lot of them, and they don’t tend to be overly motivated if you ask me. They do tend to respond to pestering, though.

  6. that is the sort of thing that happens in all districts i think. when i worked at the school (private-you figure it be better) we all bought tons of needs. by the time they would proccess the request and then the funding…blah, blah..
i’m glad that you got your clock working even after a whole yr..wow!

how is your cold? hope you are on the fast lane to healthier days.

(thank you for all the loving comments)

  7. Quilldancer- when you didn’t have a working clock, you were timeless! I hope you’re feeling better, and the Wordless Wednesday (wonderful concept, BTW) photo is wonderful. That’s what water is for!

  8. Can I borrow Estella to work in the place where we order our uniforms from!? We order summer shirts and get them just in time for snow to fly. We order a winter jacket and it arrives about the time the dog days of summer do.

  9. LOL! Guess all schools ARE created equal! At least when it comes to the clock repair! (only about HALF at our school work… at any given moment…)
