She’s a Player

I have been told that last year, Cass and Tito were an item. Everywhere one went, the other would be. Usually they were hand-in-hand. This year, because Tito was promoted to Head Start, it is Cass and Jay. Until today —

Today we went on a field trip with our school’s chapter of Keiki Steps and Head Start. The kids were paired up before we left our classroom, and as usual, Cass and Jay declined to be separated. That is how they found themselves sitting together on the bus — directly across the isle from Tito and Frankie.

Cass sat on the inside, next to the window. Jay sat on the aisle. Tito sat on the aisle just across from Jay. Tito kept calling to Cass, pointing out things to look at on his side of the bus. Cass would lean or half crawl over Jay to see. Jay kept saying, “Cassie, sit down.” He tried very hard to keep Cass’ attention, and worked at staying between Cass and Tito, but finally his patience gave out. He turned to Tito and snapped, “You no talk to my Cassie!”

Tito answered back, “My Cassie!”

We all looked at Cass to see how she felt about the whole thing — and there she was with her arms crossed and a huge smile on her face.

Or she could be cooking, taking photographs, or even writing. But if she's not doing any of that, she's probably on Facebook or tinkering with her blog.

  1. “Cherchez la femme!” Je pense aussi.

So I knew women started learning this stuff early, but the 5y/o (or less) is a master already? Wow. I played with Lego for years after that age and fell way behind. This explains much.

  2. Melli — she is probably the most well-behaved and truly friendly kid we have in the class.

Doug — so, this latest war … are you telling me Bush is female?

SN — mmmm, for herself, maybe!

    Jill — my thoughts exactly.

Brig — Jay is Cassie’s. Tito is Cassie’s. And Cassie is Cassie’s. Yep.

OC — I’ve got to eavesdrop on this conversation!

Morgan — you may never catch up. Better you find yourself another late bloomer.

Polona — well, you can ask, but you’ll probably want her speech teacher nearby to translate ….

  3. Morgan — my suggestion would be to become comfortable and content with your single status — at which point some woman will come along and try to change your mind. 🙂

Mumma! Oh my! You were a little hussy! For shame!
