Just Reflecting

This is a self-portrait. I know it isn’t perfectly focused and I cut off the top of my head, but you try standing in front of the mirror, holding a camera to your chest, and snapping a pic without looking through the view finder. You may not get the photo you think you should, either.

Photo Challenge — Reflect This

For the next week — Sunday through Saturday, I am in search of Photographic Reflections. I am not going to put too fine a point on how you define the word reflection, but I am going to ask that the photographs you share for this theme be your own, or that the actual photographer be clearly identified in your post. Go out, have fun, and remember to leave a comment and link back here so we know who’s playing! Now, get snappin’!

Please, sign in to Mr. Linky only if you are sharing a Photographic Reflection! Either way, leave a comment so I know you’ve been by! Thanks for visiting.

Quilly is the pseudonym of Charlene L. Amsden, who lives on The Big Island in Hawaii. When she is not hanging out with Amoeba, she is likely teaching or sewing. Or she could be cooking, taking photographs, or even writing. But if she's not doing any of that, she's probably on Facebook or tinkering with her blog.

  1. Oooooookie dokey! I can DO this! I’ll start with a “repeat” for today… but I know I have nothing ELSE in my archives… so it will all be fresh after this!

  2. I think you did a great job with your self portrait. Not sure if I’ll be able to post every day this week but I love reflections so this is a great challenge for me. As it turned out my “weekend snapshot” post this week has a reflection anyway so I combined that with your challenge and mine is up. Great idea you have come up with.

  3. Nice photo Quilly – nice to meet you! 🙂

When I went to bed last night I kept wondering what it would be – reflections is good! I already posted for today but I’ll be with you tomorrow.

  7. Well, I love reflection photos, too.

Recently Reflectiosn and Shadows was our theme at Picture This
( http://picturethisanocommentblog.blogspot.com/ ) which is a group blog I belong to. We just switched yesterday to “rusty, broken, or abandoned”. While reflections was the theme, I posted about twenty different reflection photos, and other members of the group also posted. You can find them at the blog between August 1-15.

So, well, I don’t think I’m up to the challenge at the moment–but I think you would enjoy stopping by to see the relfections at Picture This.

  8. Hey Quilly,
Mine for Monday is up. I didn’t see Mr.Linky on this post so I’m not sure what’s up. I have the same trouble on Raven’s blog.
When you put your new one up would you mind linking me. Thanks.

  9. I only discovered your challenge this morning (Monday) but it’s never too late !
Indeed it’s not easy to take a picture of yourself ! It came out very well ! I should look at my cats and take a picture of them IN my glasses !

  10. DragonStar — yay! I’ll be over to see soon.

Dr. John — you have all week!

Holly — you are so sweet. A liar, but sweet.

Katney — I will be by to see. I have been thinking of joining your Odd-Shots, but I have my own Monday blog feature that’s been getting in the way.

Carletta — I’ll try to remember! Reflection This #2 will actually go up automatically AFTER I’m in bed, so I won’t get you on there until morning.

Gattina — you are always welcome! Hop on in, the reflections are fine ….

  11. Well, hi there. Nice to see you friend. I think you did just fine with your shot. It is a huge feat to snap a photo without looking thru the lens and then to be doing it in a mirror where the reflection makes you concentrate on everythig backwards…..yikes. Yes you did just wonderful.

  12. Just what I get for not checking blogs for a couple days… I’m late to the party. I’ll see what I can find….

    Thanks for the new challenge!

  13. You look very different in this photo to the one on your template. It’s partly the new haircut. I can’t decide if it’s the Hawaiian sun causing the new-found glow or just true love and contentment.

  14. I’m coming to the party late I guess. But it just happened that I was experimenting with a few things and came up with something that fit this challenge and another one at the same time. Thought I’d give them both a try and see what happens.
    Here goes nothin’
PS: I usually do self-portraits with the timer. I use manual focus, put a “something” where the subject (me) is going to be so I have something to focus on then hit the shutter and race to replace my focus puller. This way is easier.
