# 258 Abandoned

Thematic Photographic 62 – Abandoned

abandoned

ABANDONED adj. Forsaken or deserted.

This lonely bicycle sits outside Bilger Hall on the University of Hawaii Campus at Manoa.  I have passed by it many times wondering how it came to be abandoned.  Did the bike’s owner graduate to higher priced, classier transportation?  Or perhaps he (or she) quit school and just walked away leaving everything, including the bike behind.  Of course, it could just be that the key to the lock has been lost.  Whatever the reason, this bike sits by the wayside alone.

  1. A while since that bike was loved and cared about ;-). You take awesome photos. Love them 🙂

Marie — thank you. I can’t help wondering how it came to be left behind? Was the key to the lock lost, or was the bike really forgotten? I want to take a lock cutter and rescue it.

It’s been there for a while. What I like is how it is all dusty and rusty at the bottom while the rest of the wheel is clean. Maybe recent rain cleaned it? You have a good eye Quilly!

Jientje — I did, in fact, take this photo the day after a big wind & rain storm.

  5. Heather says:

Poor bike! Definitely abandoned … I wonder why … hmmm … great pic!

  6. Anna says:

    Gorgeous shot!!!
And great take of the theme 🙂

    Have a nice day.

  7. That wouldn’t stay abandoned long around here. Someone official would no doubt decide it was a security risk and ‘move it along.’

What a great eye for a photo Quilly! Looking at your photos inspires me to see my surroundings through entirely different eyes. Thank you!

  8. Melli says:

Ohhhh… that almost scares me. I wonder why it’s owner didn’t come back for it… You DO take great shots Quilly…

  9. Thom says:

Excellent Q. Captures the theme very very well. 🙂

Heather — thank you. I wonder why, too!

Anna — isn’t it amazing how something so rusty and forlorn can make a great photo?

Southlakesmom — I was just on campus today — which is gearing up for the new term — and the bike, indeed the entire bike rack, is gone. I am glad I snapped that photo when I did.

Melli — I wonder if the kid went home for the Summer and thought the bike would still be there when school resumed?

Thom — thanks! I saw the abandoned chair you posted on your blog. This morning it looked a bit soggy.

  11. Wow, this is an excellent shot. I especially love how you cropped it and didn’t bother with the rest of the bike.

My “abandoned” photo is here if you’d like to stop by!

Love 2B — I didn’t crop it. That is the way I took the shot and the focus I wanted. I am glad you like it.

  13. Nikki-ann says:

The tyre looks to have come off it’s rim… I wonder if they had a puncture or something? Still, you’d expect the owner to have fixed it or somehow got the bike home!

Nikki-Ann, there’s a lot of speculation as to why the bike was left so alone and forlorn. Likely we will never know. Thanks for visiting.
